Romeo Murga
Romeo Murga (1904–1925) was a Chilean poet, writer and translator. Biography He was born in Copiapó, on June 18 1904, and studied at the German High School. He moved to Santiago in March 1920 and studied teaching in French at the Pedagogical Institute of the University of Chile. He qualified as a French Teacher in 1924, and was appointed professor at the school in Quillota. His only published the book was 'El Libro de la Fiesta' which contained his best known poem 'El Poema de la Fiesta.' Posthumously, 'El Canto de la Sombra' was published by his sister, Berta Murga, in 1946. It was republished in 1999 at the José Joaquín Vallejo auditorium hall in Copiapó. Romeo Murga died in the town of San Bernardo on May 22, 1925 at the age of 21 of Tuberculosis. Copiapó
Copiapó () is a city and commune in northern Chile, located about 65 kilometers east of the coastal town of Caldera. Founded on December 8, 1744, it is the capital of Copiapó Province and Atacama Region. Copiapó lies about 800 km north of Santiago by the Copiapó River, in the valley of the same name. In the early 21st century, the river has dried up in response to climate change and more severe droughts. The town is surrounded by the Atacama Desert and receives 12 mm (½ in) of rain per year. The population of Copiapó was 9,128 in 1903; and 11,617 in 1907. As of 2012, there are 158,438 inhabitants. Copiapó is in a rich silver and copper mining district. Quillota
Quillota is a city located in the Aconcagua River valley in central Chile's Valparaíso Region. It is the capital and largest city of Quillota Province, where many inhabitants live in the outlying farming areas of San Isidro, La Palma, Pocochay, and San Pedro. It is an important agricultural center, mainly because of the plantations of avocado and cherimoya (custard apple) trees. Quillota is connected to the city of La Calera by the small town of La Cruz.
