Romeo Benetti
Romeo Benetti (; born 20 October 1945) is an Italian professional footballer who played as a defensive midfielder. A tenacious and intimidating player, Benetti played for several Italian clubs throughout his career, winning titles with AC Milan, Juventus and AS Roma. At international level, he represented the Italy national football team on 55 occasions between 1971 and 1980, and took part at the 1974 and 1978 FIFA World Cups, as well as UEFA Euro 1980, achieving fourth-place finishes in the latter two tournaments. Club career After winning the 1967–68 Serie B title with Palermo, Benetti started his Serie A career in 1968 with Juventus, making 24 appearances and scoring a goal during his first season with the club. However, he did not remain at the club for long, and he joined Sampdoria on loan during the next season. The 1976–77 UEFA Cup was the sixth season of the UEFA Cup, the third-tier club football competition organised by UEFA. The final was played over two legs at Stadio Comunale, Turin, Italy, and at San Mamés, Bilbao, Spain. It was won by Juventus of Italy, who defeated Athletic Bilbao of Spain on the away goals rule after a 2–2 aggregate draw to claim their first UEFA Cup title. This was the first major European conquest for Juventus, having previously lost one European Cup final and two Inter-Cities Fairs' Cup finals. It was the first time that a team from Southern Europe had won the competition, and the last European title for an Italian team for seven years, which was their biggest international drought at club level until 2018. The ''scudetto'' (; Italian for 'little shield') is a decoration having the colors of the flag of Italy which is sewn onto the jersey of the Italian sports clubs that won the highest level championship of their respective sport in the previous season.
