Rome Italia Johnson
Rome Italia Johnson is a Bahamian former insurance executive who served as the Speaker of the Bahamas House of Assembly from April 1997 until May 2002. Also called Speaker, not President, she was the first female to serve in that position. She was born 1 August 1954 in Nassau. She went to University of Miami and Georgetown University in Washington. From 1977 until 1992 she worked in the insurance industry and she was the first female President of the Life Underwriters Association of the Bahamas. She is a member of Free National Movement. Hubert Ingraham
The Right Honourable Hubert Alexander Ingraham, PC (born 4 August 1947) is a Bahamian politician who was Prime Minister of the Bahamas from August 1992 to May 2002 and again from May 2007 to May 2012. He is a member of the Free National Movement Party (FNM). Prior to the 2012 election, he was the FNM's Party Leader and was the Member of Parliament for the North Abaco constituency. He served as Leader of the Opposition in the House of Assembly from 2005 to 2007. In the historic election of August 1992, in which the FNM unseated the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP), Ingraham succeeded Prime Minister Lynden Pindling, who had headed the PLP government since January 1967. Following his party's victory in the May 2007 election, he became Prime Minister again. After his government was defeated in the 2012 general election, on 7 May Ingraham announced his resignation as FNM leader and as an MP. James Oswald Ingraham was a Bahamian businessman and politician and former Speaker of the House of Assembly. The Free National Movement (abbreviated FNM) is a political party in The Bahamas formed in the early 1970s, led by Sir Cecil Wallace Whitfield. The current leader of the party is Michael Pintard and his deputy Peter Turnquest. It dominated the general election held on 10 May 2017, winning 35 of the 39 seats in the Legislature, but was defeated in 2021, losing 28 seats. History The FNM was established at Jimmy Shepherd's house on Spring Hills Farms in Fox Hill in 1971. The Free-PLP were a breakaway group of eight MPs from the then governing Progressive Liberal Party.
