Romani Initiative
The Romani Initiative (RI) is a political party in Kosovo representing the interests of the Roma community. The party won a single seat in the 2021 Kosovan parliamentary election. Its leader is Gazmen Salijević. Formation The Romani Initiative was established in Gračanica prior to the 2021 parliamentary election. Its stated purpose is to "break the cycle of discrimination and poverty that has affected the Roma community for many years." It promotes "the inclusion of Roma in all aspects of social life in Kosovo, and especially for active participation in the political process." History The Romani Initiative was initially reported as having won two of the ten seats reserved for non-Serb minority communities in the 2021 parliamentary election, emerging as the largest Roma party in Kosovo. 2021 Kosovan Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Kosovo on 14 February 2021. The results were a landslide victory for Vetëvendosje led by Albin Kurti and its coalition partner, Vjosa Osmani, former speaker of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, parliament of Kosovo. The alliance won more than 50% of the total votes, the highest share since the first elections held in 2001 Kosovan parliamentary election, 2001, while their nearest rivals, the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Democratic Party, finished in second place, trailing by more than 33%. Gračanica, Kosovo
Gračanica ( sr-cyr, Грачаница) or Graçanicë ( sq-definite, Graçanica), is a town and municipality located in Pristina District in Kosovo. As of 2024, the town has a population of 18,486 inhabitants. It is centered around the Gračanica Monastery, ten kilometers east of Pristina. The 1999 Kosovo War and its aftermath transformed Gračanica from a sleepy village into an administrative center serving the needs of the 75,000 Kosovo Serbs living south of the Ibar River. After the 2013 Brussels Agreement, the municipality was expected to become part of a proposed Community of Serb Municipalities, however the agreement was never implemented as it was deemed unconstitutional. Serb List (Kosovo)
The Serb List (; ) is a Kosovo Serbs, Serb minority List of political parties in Kosovo, political party in Kosovo. Fadil Gashi (Kosovo Politician, Born 1987)
Fadil Gashi (born 8 March 1987) is a politician in Kosovo from the Roma community. He has served in the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo since 2021 as a member of the Romani Initiative (RI). Early life and career Gashi was born in Obiliq, in what was then the Socialist Autonomous Province of Kosovo in the Socialist Republic of Serbia, Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. He has a primary school education. Politician Gashi appeared in the lead position on the Romani Initiative's electoral list in the 2021 Kosovan parliamentary election and was elected when the list won one of the ten seats reserved for members of Kosovo's non-Serb minority communities. Vjosa Osmani
Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu (born 17 May 1982) is a Kosovan jurist and politician serving as the sixth president of Kosovo since April 2021, having previously served as acting president from November 2020 to March 2021. She also served as Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo from 2020 to 2021. Born and raised in Titova Mitrovica, SFR Yugoslavia (present-day Kosovo), Osmani studied law at the University of Pristina and the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. She worked as an advisor to the president of Kosovo Fatmir Sejdiu before she was elected to the Assembly.
