Dschinghis Khan (; "Genghis Khan") is a German Eurodisco Pop music, pop band. It was originally formed in Munich in Eurovision Song Contest 1979, 1979 to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest with their song "Dschinghis Khan (song), Dschinghis Khan". The original group consisted of six members: Louis Hendrik Potgieter, Edina Pop, Henriette Strobel, Wolfgang Heichel, Leslie Mándoki, and Steve Bender, performed from 1979 to their first disbandment in 1985. In 2005, the surviving Dschinghis Khan members reunited to recreate the music group that had been broken up, but years later they separately organized different bands all under the brand name "Dschinghis Khan". Ralph Siegel (born 30 September 1945) is a German record producer and songwriter. Siegel is one of the most notable figures at the Eurovision Song Contest, in which he has participated with 24 songs so far, among them the 1982 winner song Ein bisschen Frieden. It features the singles "Pistolero", "Loreley", "Wir sitzen alle im selben Boot", and " What Shall We Do with the Drunken Sailor". Bernd Meinunger (born 30 September 1944) is a German lyricist and record producer (with Hanne Haller) who frequently works with Ralph Siegel and David Brandes. Several of his songs have represented Germany in the ''Eurovision Song Contest''. Career Meinunger co-wrote the song "Tut-Ench-Amun" with Horst Hornung and Christian Dornaus. Leslie Mándoki
László "Leslie" Mándoki (born 7 January 1953) is a German-Hungarian musician who became known as a member of the music group Dschinghis Khan. He continued his career as a solo artist and became a music producer who worked with many internationally famous artists. In 1992, Mandoki founded the supergroup known as Mandoki Soulmates, for which he is still an active member. Early life Mándoki studied drums and percussion at the musical conservatory of Budapest in the early 1970s. At the same time he was a band leader for the local jazz-rock group JAM, citing groups like Cream and Jethro Tull as his influence. In July 1975, Mándoki, along with animation filmmaker Gábor Csupó (the creator of ''Rugrats'') and others, fled from Hungary to Munich, West Germany to avoid prosecution by the communist regime for being a member of the student opposition. "Moskau" (German for Moscow) is the second single by German Eurodisco group Dschinghis Khan (known as ''Genghis Khan'' in Australia and other countries) released in 1979. The band also recorded an English version, which they released in 1980 as "Moscow". History A 15-second snippet of the song was scheduled to be broadcast as part of the 1980 New Year's Eve television special, but this ultimately did not happen. In 2006, the song made its video game debut as a playable song in ''Taiko no Tatsujin'' Portable 2.
