Rollerball (1975 Film)
''Rollerball'' is a 1975 American dystopian science-fiction sports film directed and produced by Norman Jewison, and starring James Caan, John Houseman, Maud Adams, John Beck, Moses Gunn and Ralph Richardson. The screenplay, written by William Harrison, adapted his own short story "Roller Ball Murder", which had first appeared in the September 1973 issue of ''Esquire.'' Set in a near future world ruled by a corporatocracy, the film centers on the titular sport — an often-brutal spectacle used to help placate the populace. Jonathan E. (Caan), the sport's top player, finds himself at odds with the ruling powers, when his popularity threatens to hurt their grip on power. The film was released by United Artists on June 25, 1975. ''Rollerball'' was a box office success, and critical reviews were initially mixed but have warmed somewhat over time, and the film inspired a wave of similar, dystopian-themed sports films. A remake of the same name was released in 2002. Plo ...

Rollerball (2002 Film)
''Rollerball'' is a 2002 Science fiction film, science fiction sports film directed by John McTiernan. A remake of the Rollerball (1975 film), 1975 film of the same name, based on William Harrison (author), William Harrison's short story ''Roller Ball Murder'', the film stars Chris Klein (actor), Chris Klein, Jean Reno, LL Cool J, Rebecca Romijn and Naveen Andrews. While both versions of ''Rollerball'' use the same basic premise, the 2002 version has a much greater focus on action sequences, more muted social and political overtones than the original, and takes place in the mid-2000s rather than in a future dystopian 2010s. ''Rollerball'' was released on February 8, 2002. It was universally panned by critics and became a box-office bomb, grossing $25.9 million against a production budget of $70 million. In 2014, the ''Los Angeles Times'' listed the film as one of the most expensive box office flops of all time. Plot In 2005, the new sport of Rollerball, a Blood sport, viole ...

Rollerball (chess Variant)
Rollerball is a chess variant invented by Jean-Louis Cazaux in 1998. The game was inspired by the 1975 science-fiction movie '' Rollerball'', specifically the futuristic and violent sport (similar to Roller Derby) portrayed in the film. The board comprises 7×7 squares with the central 3×3 section missing. Pieces generally move clockwise around the board. Each player starts with one king, one bishop, two rooks, and two pawns. Both bishops are light-squared on the initial setup. Dark-squared bishops can only be obtained by pawn promotion. Game rules The initial setup is as shown. White moves first. Pieces move and capture the same as their chess counterparts, except where explained differently below. Objective There are two ways to win in Rollerball: # Checkmating the enemy king. # Bringing one's own king to the starting square of the enemy king on the opposite side of the board (but only when having travelled to that side of the board in a clockwise direction). The same a ...

Rollerball (video Game)
is a video game produced by HAL Laboratory in 1984 for the MSX. A Nintendo Entertainment System version of the game was released in 1988. It is designed to be played by one to four players, in turn. It is an emulation of a pinball machine. The pinball machine rendered in ''Rollerball'' is composed of four screens, which, by proportion, would be about as long as two standard pinball tables if it were a real table. The graphics on two of the four screens are based on various aspects of the New York City skyline. The topmost screen (hereafter called the ''bonus screen'') merely shows some clouds and a blimp. The second screen (the ''main screen'') shows the top of the Empire State Building, while the third screen (''intermediate'') shows the lower skyline and the Statue of Liberty. The lowest (''final'') screen shows only a blue backdrop, representing the Ocean. Gameplay Main screen In the main mode, each player launches the ball directly into the main screen. To the top is a ...

No Education = No Future (Fuck The Curfew)
''No Education = No Future (Fuck the Curfew)'' is an EP by Scottish post-rock group Mogwai, released in the UK through Chemikal Underground in 1998. Overview ''No Education = No Future (Fuck the Curfew)'' is Mogwai's second EP. It features three tracks, "Xmas Steps", "Rollerball" (both recorded at CaVa Studios in Glasgow, Scotland and produced by Geoff Allan in April 1998), and "Small Children in the Background" (recorded at Chem19 Studios in Hamilton, Scotland and produced by Andy Miller in May 1998). The curfew mentioned in the title of the EP refers to a curfew which was imposed upon all under-16s in Lanarkshire, Scotland, which made it illegal for them to be out after 9pm. The promo for the EP originally featured the song "Helps Both Ways" (also recorded at CaVa Studios and produced by Geoff Allan), which sampled American football coach John Madden without permission, so consequently, the song was replaced by "Small Children in the Background" on the actual EP. A re-recor ...

Rollerball Pen
Roller ball pens or roll pens are pens which use ball-point writing mechanisms with water-based liquid or Gel pen, gelled ink, as opposed to the oil-based viscosity, viscous inks found in ballpoint pens. These less viscous inks, which tend to saturate more deeply and more widely into paper than other types of ink, give roller ball pens their distinctive writing qualities. The writing point is a tiny ball, usually 0.5 or 0.7 mm in diameter, that transfers the ink from the reservoir onto the paper as the pen moves. Advantages There are two main types of roller ball pens: liquid-ink pens and gel-ink pens. The "liquid-ink" type uses an ink and ink-supply system similar to a fountain pen, and they are designed to combine the convenience of a ballpoint pen with the smooth "wet ink" effect of a fountain pen. The "liquid-ink" type rollerball pens were introduced in 1963 by the Japanese company Ohto. The gel-ink type rollerball pens were patented in 1982 by Sakura Color Products. ...

Inline Skates
Inline skates are boots with wheels arranged in a single line from front to back, allowing one to move in an ice skate-like fashion. Inline skates are technically a type of roller skates, roller skate, but most people associate the term roller skates with quad skates, another type of roller skate with a two-by-two wheel arrangement similar to a car. Quad skates were popularized in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Inline skates became prominent in the late 1980s with the rise of Rollerblade, Rollerblade, Inc., and peaked in the late 1990s.
