Rolf Juell Gleditsch
Rolf Juell Gleditsch (30 November 1892 – 13 January 1984) was a Norwegian painter. He was born in Vardal. He was a second cousin of Odd, Ellen, Kristian and Henry Gleditsch, and a first cousin once removed of Kristen Gran Gleditsch and Jens Gran Gleditsch. He studied in Stockholm from 1910 to 1913 and in Paris under Othon Friesz from 1919 to 1920. His main style was landscape paintings. The National Gallery ( no, Nasjonalgalleriet) is a gallery in Oslo, Norway. Since 2003 it is administratively a part of the National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design. , the admission cost is 100 Norwegian kroner. History It was established in 1842 following a parliamentary decision from 1836. Originally located in the Royal Palace, Oslo, it got its own museum building in 1882, designed by Heinrich Ernst and Adolf Schirmer. Landscape painting, also known as landscape art, is the depiction of natural scenery such as mountains, valleys, trees, rivers, and forests, especially where the main subject is a wide view—with its elements arranged into a coherent composition. Othon Friesz
Achille-Émile Othon Friesz (6 February 1879 – 10 January 1949), who later called himself Othon Friesz, a native of Le Havre, was a French artist of the Fauvist movement. Biography Othon Friesz was born in Le Havre, the son of a long line of shipbuilders and sea captains. He went to school in his native city. It was while he was at the Lycée that he met his lifelong friend Raoul Dufy. He and Dufy studied at the Le Havre School of Fine Arts in 1895-96 and then went to Paris together for further study. In Paris, Friesz met Henri Matisse, Albert Marquet, and Georges Rouault. Like them, he rebelled against the academic teaching of Bonnat and became a member of the Fauves, exhibiting with them in 1907. The following year, Friesz returned to Normandy and to a much more traditional style of painting, since he had discovered that his personal goals in painting were firmly rooted in the past. Jens Gran Gleditsch
Jens Gran Gleditsch (1860–1931) was a Norwegian bishop and theologian. He was a brother of Kristen Gran Gleditsch. Gleditsch was born on 6 December 1860 in Voss, Søndre Bergenhus, Norway. He received his cand.theol. degree in 1883 from the University of Oslo. He was a chaplain in Lista from 1887 until 1891. He then moved to Antwerp, Belgium to serve as pastor of the Norwegian Seaman's Church there. In 1912, Gleditsch became the parish priest in Arendal. From 1917 until 1923, he held various positions in churches in Oslo. In 1918, he received an honorary Doctorate of Theology from the University of Uppsala. He was bishop at the Diocese of Nidaros from 1923 until 1928. His appointment as a bishop was very controversial at the time due to his liberal theology. Vardal
Vardal is a former municipality in the old Oppland county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 1964. The area is now divided between Gjøvik Municipality and Vestre Toten Municipality in the traditional district of Vestoppland. The administrative centre was the village of Vardal. Kristen Gran Gleditsch
Kristen Gran Gleditsch (1867–1946) was a Norwegian military officer and topographer. Biography Kristen Gran Gleditsch was born in Overhalla as a son of dean Lars August Gleditsch (1814–1886). He was a brother of bishop Jens Gran Gleditsch, an uncle of Ellen, Kristian and Henry Gleditsch, and a first cousin once removed of Odd Gleditsch, Sr. and Rolf Juell Gleditsch. He started a military career, and reached the rank of lieutenant colonel in 1921. He had a parallel career in topography, as an employee in the Norwegian Mapping and Cadastre Authority (then known as ''Norges Geografiske Oppmåling'') since 1898. Henry Gleditsch
Henry Cochrane Williamsen Gleditsch (9 November 1902 – 6 October 1942) was a Norwegian actor and theatre director. He was born in Kristiania. In his young days he participated in skiing for SFK Lyn. He married Synnøve Tanvik in 1932. He made his acting debut in 1923, and in 1937 he established and took charge of Trøndelag Teater in Trondheim. He had a satirical style, provoking the authorities of the Occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany. People warned him and advised him to flee to Sweden, but he did not do so. Following skirmishes in Majavatn and sabotages in Glomfjord and Malm, conducted by the Norwegian resistance movement, martial law was declared on 6 October 1942 in and around Trondheim, in Nord-Trøndelag and in Grane.
