Roja Kannan
Roja Kannan (born 1960) is an Indian dancer specialising in the classical dance form Bharatanatyam. Roja Kannan is one of the most outstanding Bharatanatyam Exponents from Chennai, India having trained under illustrious Gurus Padmashri Awardee Sri. Adyar K. Lakshman, Adyar K.Lakshman and Padma Bhushan Awardee Smt. Kalanidhi Narayanan, Kalanidhi Narayanan. Roja has been nurtured in a rich Carnatic South Indian Classical music background and hence she grew up in an atmosphere of music and dance, starting her formal training at a very early age under the illustrious exponent Padma Bhushan Awardee Vyjayanthimala, Dr. Vyjayanthimala Bali at her institution "NATYALAYA" in Chennai. Roja had her first solo debut performance in the year 1972 and has since then reached a glorious stature as a fine performer. Palghat Rama Bhagavathar (5 June 1888 – 26 June 1957) was an Indian Carnatic music, musician. Early life Rama Bhagavathar was born in Mundaya (മുണ്ടായ) village near Shoranur, Palghat, Kerala. His father, Kasturi Ranganathan was a man of modest income. His mother was Alamelu Mangai. He took his early gurukulavasam with Palghat Anantarama Bhagavathar. He also learned music from Carnatic exponents like Maha Vaidyanatha Iyer. Umayalpuram Swaminatha Iyer who was a scion of the great composer Tyagaraja, Thyagaraja's musical lineage, taught him to learn a number of kritis of Tyagaraja. Maharajapuram Viswanatha Iyer was a fellow student and the two became friends. Career His first Carnatic concert was at the Kalpathi Ratholsavam, Kalpathy Kasi Viswanatha Swamy Temple and so was his last concert.
