Roi Levi (mayor)
Roi Yosef Levy (; 29 May 1979 – 7 October 2023) was an officer in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) with the rank of colonel who served in his last position as commander of the Multidimensional Unit (IDF), Multidimensional Unit. He had previously served as commander of the Fire Training Center in Melah, commander of the Bar'am Brigade, commander of the Egoz Unit, Unit 621 - 'Egoz', commander of the Hadar Battalion and commander of the Golani Brigade, 1st 'Golani' Brigade. He was killed in the battle of Re'im during an encounter with Palestinian militants during the Gaza war. Biography Levy was born in the United States and grew up in Jerusalem. He studied at the Beit El yeshiva, Yeshiva High School in Beit El and the Atarot Yerushalayim Yeshiva. Multidimensional Unit (IDF)
The Multidimensional Unit, also known as Unit 888 or the “Refaim” Unit (), is an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Special Operations task force operating under the Israeli Ground Forces, Ground Forces. Gaza War Hostage Crisis
In 2023, as part of the October 7th attacks which initiated the Gaza war, Hamas and other Palestinian militant groups abducted 251 people from Israel to the Gaza Strip, including children, women, and elderly people. Almost half of the hostages were foreign nationals or have multiple citizenships, and some hostages were Negev Bedouins. The captives are likely being held in different locations in the Gaza Strip. Re'im Music Festival Massacre
On 7 October 2023, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian nationalism, Palestinian nationalist political organization Hamas, initiated a October 7 attacks, sudden attack on Israel from the Gaza Strip. Yonatan Steinberg (; 1980 – 7 October 2023) was an officer in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) with the rank of colonel, who served as the commander of the Nahal Brigade, 933rd "Nahal" Brigade. Asaf Hamami
Asaf Hamami (; December 2, 1982 – October 7, 2023) was an IDF officer with the rank of colonel, serving as the commander of the Southern Brigade in the Gaza Strip. Prior to that, he served as the commander of the Negev Brigade, commander of the Oz Brigade training school, and commander of the Tzabar Battalion.
