Detlev Rohwer (14 November 1917 – 30 March 1944) was a German Luftwaffe ace and recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross during World War II. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. During his career he was credited with 38 aerial victories, 12 on the Western Front and 26 on the Eastern Front. Career Rohwer was born on 14 November 1917 in Kiel, at the time in the Province of Schleswig-Holstein, a province of the Kingdom of Prussia. Following aerial combat with Royal Air Force (RAF) Hawker Hurricane fighters on 2 September 1940, Rohwer made a forced landing in his Messerschmitt Bf 109 E in the English Channel off of Maidstone. Forest Rohwer (born 1969) is an American microbial ecologist and Professor of Biology at San Diego State University. His particular interests include coral reef microbial ecology and viruses as both evolutionary agents and opportunistic pathogens in various environments. Jürgen Rohwer (24 May 192424 July 2015) was a German military historian and professor of history at the University of Stuttgart. Rohwer wrote over 400 books and essays on World War II naval history and military intelligence, which gained him worldwide recognition as a prominent historian and a leading authority on U-boats. Biography Rohwer was born in Friedrichroda. After leaving school in 1942, he entered the Kriegsmarine as an officer candidate (crew VI/42). Lauren Elizabeth Shea Rohwer is an American scientist. She is a principal member of the technical staff at Sandia National Laboratories. Rohwer researches synthesis and characterization of nanoscale luminescent materials with applications to solid-state lighting. Education Rohwer completed a bachelor of science in physics from University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1990. In 1993, she earned a master of science in materials science and engineering from Virginia Tech. She completed a Ph.D. in materials science from University of California, San Diego (UCSD) in 1997. At UCSD she pioneered the use of combustion synthesis for producing efficient, small particle size oxide phosphors. Ray Rohwer
Ray Arthur Rohwer (April 5, 1895 – September 1, 1988) was an outfielder for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He spent parts of two seasons with the Pirates, playing in 83 games during the 1921–22 seasons. Rohwer came of an old Solano County family. He played college baseball at the University of California, where he joined Theta Xi, before serving in the Army during World War I. In 83 games over two major league seasons, Rohwer posted a .284 batting average (48-for-169) with 25 runs, 3 home runs and 28 RBI. After his playing for the Pirates, Rohwer spent nine seasons in the Pacific Coast League, playing for Seattle, Portland and Sacramento. He compiled a career .299 average and rapped out 1,402 hits, 287 doubles, 61 triples and 196 home runs during his time in the PCL, which ran from 1923 until 1931. Sievert Allen Rohwer (22 December 1887 in Telluride, Colorado, Telluride – 12 February 1951) was an American entomologist who specialized in Hymenoptera. He was a graduate of the University of Colorado. At the time of his death, Rohwer was serving as the Coordinator Defense Activities for the Agricultural Research Administration within the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Rohwer worked for the USDA from 1909 until his death. Rohwer wrote ''Technical papers on miscellaneous forest insects. II.
