Rohit K Dasgupta
Rohit K. Dasgupta is an Associate Professor of Gender and Sexuality at the London School of Economics and Political Science and a British Labour Party politician. Prior to this he was a Senior Lecturer in the School of Culture and Creative Arts at the University of Glasgow where he remains as an Honorary Senior Research Fellow. In 2018 he was elected Councillor in the London Borough of Newham for the Canning Town South ward. He was re-elected for the same ward again in 2022. He contested the Parliamentary seat of East Hampshire for the Labour Party in 2017, coming second with an increase of 7% vote share. He is also Secretary of the Newham Branch of the Fabian Society. In 2019 he was selected as an MEP candidate for the South East region (5th on the list) but failed to get elected. The Fabian Society () is a History of the socialist movement in the United Kingdom, British socialist organisation whose purpose is to advance the principles of social democracy and democratic socialism via gradualist and reformist effort in democracies, rather than by revolutionary overthrow. LGBT+ Labour is the socialist society officially representing the LGBTQ wing of the Labour Party in the United Kingdom. The purpose of the organisation is to campaign within the Labour Party, and the wider Labour movement to promote the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBTQ) people, and to encourage members of the LGBT community to support the Labour Party. 2022 Newham London Borough Council Election
The 2022 Newham London Borough Council election took place on 5 May 2022. All 66 members of Newham London Borough Council were elected. The election took place alongside local elections in the other London boroughs and elections to local authorities across the United Kingdom. In the previous election in 2018, the Labour Party maintained its control of the council, winning all 60 seats. The 2022 election took place under new election boundaries, which increased the number of councillors to 66. Labour and Co-operative Party (often abbreviated to Labour Co-op; ) is a description used by candidates in United Kingdom elections who stand on behalf of both the Labour Party and the Co-operative Party. Candidates contest elections under an electoral alliance between the two parties, which was first agreed in 1927. This agreement recognises the independence of the two parties and commits them to not standing against each other in elections. It also sets out the procedures for both parties to select joint candidates and collaborate at a local and national level.
