Roger Wijesuriya
Roger Gerard Christopher Ediriweera Wijesuriya (born 18 February 1960) is a Sri Lankan former cricketer, who played four Tests and eight One Day Internationals (ODIs) for the Sri Lanka cricket team. He is known for having the worst bowling average in Test match cricket. Pre-Test career Wijesuriya represented Sri Lanka from 1978–79 until 1985–86, but never impressed in international cricket, although his first class and List A statistics were quite decent. His first match for Sri Lanka was a one-day game against West Indies, where he took the wicket of Larry Gomes as Sri Lanka won by seven wickets. Wijesuriya was also picked for the 1979 tour of England, where he ended up with ten wickets at an average of 37.70 in five first class games, including three for 13 against Scotland in a rain-hit three-day game. Moratuwa
Moratuwa ( si, මොරටුව, ta, மொறட்டுவை) is a large suburb of Colombo, on the southwestern coast of Sri Lanka, near Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia. It is situated on the Galle–Colombo (Galle road) main highway, south of the centre of Colombo. Moratuwa is surrounded on three sides by water, except in the north of the city, by the Indian Ocean on the west, the Lake Bolgoda on the east and the Moratu river on the south. Sri Lankan Cricket Team In England In 1979
The Sri Lankan cricket team toured England from May to July during the 1979 English domestic cricket season. The team spent most of its time in England, but also played in one match in Ireland and one in Scotland. Sri Lanka, captained by Anura Tennekoon, played 10 matches on the tour, but only won once, against Oxford University Cricket Club in two days. Apart from losses to Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club over 3 days and Leicestershire County Cricket Club in a 55-overs one-day match, all of the other matches were drawn. Mansoor Akhtar
Mansoor Akhtar (born 25 December 1957) is a Pakistani former cricketer who played in 19 Test matches and 41 One Day Internationals between 1980 and 1990. In his Test career Mansoor scored one century and three half-centuries, with a highest score of 111 against Australia in Faisalabad. In his ODI career he failed to even record a half century and took only two wickets. At the age of only 19 he partnered Waheed Mirza in a world record opening stand of 561 on 7 and 8 February 1977 while playing for Karachi Whites against Quetta at National Stadium, Karachi. The partnership is still the best for the first wicket in first-class cricket, and took just six and a half hours. Dismissal (cricket)
In cricket, a dismissal occurs when a batter's innings is brought to an end by the opposing team. Other terms used are the batsman being out, the batting side losing a wicket, and the fielding side taking a wicket. The ball becomes dead (so no further runs can be scored off that delivery), and the dismissed batter must leave the field of play for the rest of their team's innings, to be replaced by a team-mate. A team's innings ends if ten of the eleven team members are dismissed. Players bat in pairs so, when only one batter is not out, it is not possible for the team to bat any longer. In cricket, a batter is not out if they come out to bat in an innings and have not been dismissed by the end of an innings. The batter is also ''not out'' while their innings is still in progress. Occurrence At least one batter is not out at the end of every innings, because once ten batters are out, the eleventh has no partner to bat on with so the innings ends. Usually two batters finish not out if the batting side declares in first-class cricket, and often at the end of the scheduled number of overs in limited overs cricket. Cambridge University Cricket Club
Cambridge University Cricket Club, first recorded in 1817, is the representative cricket club for students of the University of Cambridge. Depending on the circumstances of each individual match, the club has always been recognised as holding first-class status. The university played List A cricket in 1972 and 1974 only. It has not played top-level Twenty20 cricket. With some 1,200 members, home matches are played at Fenner's. The club has three men's teams (Blues, Crusaders and the Colleges XI) and one women's team which altogether play nearly 100 days of cricket each season. 1981 English Cricket Season
The 1981 English cricket season was the 82nd in which the County Championship had been an official competition. A change of sponsorship ended the Gillette Cup and the knockout competition became the NatWest Trophy, which lasted for twenty years.
