Roger Lewis (businessman)
Roger Lewis (January 11, 1912 – November 12, 1987) was an American business executive. He was the CEO of General Dynamics from 1962 to 1970 and was the first CEO of Amtrak from 1971 to 1975. From 1953 to 1955, he was the Assistant United States Secretary of the Air Force. Biography Roger Lewis was born in Los Angeles and graduated from Stanford University in 1934. After college, he worked at Lockheed in the sheet metal shop. He remained with Lockheed in progressively higher positions through World War II when he was the company's director of materiel. After Lockheed, he went to Canadair and, in 1950, took a job as vice president of sales and management for Curtiss-Wright. In 1953, President Dwight Eisenhower nominated him as the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Materiel. The Senate confirmed his nomination on April 3, 1953, and he was sworn in on April 4. Henry Crown
Henry Crown (; June 13, 1896 – August 14, 1990) was an American industrialist and philanthropist. Among other things, he founded the Material Service Corporation, which merged with General Dynamics in 1959. At the time of his death, he was a billionaire. Henry Crown and Company, of which he is the namesake, is an investment firm that owns or has interests in a variety of business assets. From 1951 to 1961, he was the owner of the Empire State Building. Early life and career Crown (birth name: Henry Krinsky) was born in 1896 to Jewish immigrants from Lithuania. The UAC TurboTrain was an early high-speed, gas turbine train manufactured by United Aircraft that operated in Canada between 1968 and 1982 and in the United States between 1968 and 1976. It was one of the first gas turbine-powered trains to enter service for passenger traffic, and was also one of the first tilting trains to enter service in North America. Fore River Shipyard was a shipyard owned by General Dynamics Corporation located on Weymouth Fore River in Braintree, Massachusetts, Braintree and Quincy, Massachusetts. It began operations in 1883 in Braintree, and moved to its final location on Quincy Point in 1901. The General Dynamics–Grumman F-111B was a long-range carrier-based interceptor aircraft planned as a follow-on to the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II for the United States Navy (USN). The F-111B was developed during the 1960s by General Dynamics in conjunction with Grumman for the U.S. Navy as part of the joint Tactical Fighter Experimental (TFX) with the United States Air Force (USAF) to produce a common fighter for the services that could perform a variety of missions.
