Roger Jones (poet)
Roger Jones (born 1954) is an American poet. Life Roger Jones received his B.A. and M.A. at Sam Houston State University, before earning his Ph.D. from Oklahoma State University in 1986. He has had a wide publication record over the past thirty years that includes poetry in traditional western forms as well as haiku, tanka and haibun. Jones currently teaches at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas, for the Texas State University MFA. A poet is a person who studies and creates poetry. Poets may describe themselves as such or be described as such by others. A poet may simply be the creator ( thinker, songwriter, writer, or author) who creates (composes) poems ( oral or written), or they may also perform their art to an audience. The work of a poet is essentially one of communication, expressing ideas either in a literal sense (such as communicating about a specific event or place) or metaphorically. Poets have existed since prehistory, in nearly all languages, and have produced works that vary greatly in different cultures and periods. English is a West Germanic language of the Indo-European language family, with its earliest forms spoken by the inhabitants of early medieval England. San Marcos ( ) is a city and the county seat of Hays County, Texas, United States. The city's limits extend into Caldwell and Guadalupe Counties, as well. The Texas State University Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing is a three-year graduate program at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas, USA. Fiction writer Doug Dorst is the current director of the program. Texas State's MFA program ranked 45th out of 131 full-residency graduate writing programs in the Poets & Writers survey for the application year 2012, the final year the rankings were released.
