Roger Gray (actor)
Roger Gray (May 26, 1881 – January 20, 1959) was an American character who was active in the early years of the talking picture era. Born in Omaha, Nebraska in 1881, he began acting later in life, his first role being featured part in 1930's '' Hit the Deck''. Over his 14-year career he would have small or featured roles in over 75 films, including such classics as ''The Merry Widow'' (1934), ''Les Misérables'' (1935), ''Captains Courageous'' (1937), ''The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn'' (1939), and 1940's ''Road to Singapore''. His final appearance would be in a small role in the 1943 film ''Redhead from Manhattan''. Married and divorced twice, he died in a Los Angeles hospital, and his body was cremated in the crematorium of Hollywood Memorial Cemetery (now Hollywood Forever Cemetery). ''We Live Again'' is a 1934 film directed by Rouben Mamoulian and starring Anna Sten and Fredric March. The film is an adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's 1899 novel ''Resurrection'' (''Voskraeseniye''). The screenplay was written by Maxwell Anderson with contributions from a number of writers, including Preston Sturges and Thornton Wilder. Producer Samuel Goldwyn made the film to showcase Russian actress Anna Sten, his newest discovery. It was Goldwyn who named the film "We Live Again", on the theory that it meant the same thing as "Resurrection" and was easier to understand. ''Mad Love'' (also released as ''The Hands of Orlac'') is a 1935 American horror film, an adaptation of Maurice Renard's novel '' The Hands of Orlac''. It was directed by German-émigré film maker Karl Freund, and stars Peter Lorre as Dr. Gogol, Frances Drake as Yvonne Orlac and Colin Clive as Stephen Orlac. The plot revolves around Doctor Gogol's obsession with actress Yvonne Orlac. When Stephen Orlac's hands are destroyed in a train accident, Yvonne brings him to Gogol, who claims to be able to repair them.
