Roger Bullard
Roger Harrington Bullard (May 7, 1884 – March 2, 1935) was an American architect. Early life and education Bullard was born on May 7, 1884 in New York City to Lewis Henderson Bullard and Mary Perrin Bullard. His family lived in a home at 147-38 Ash Avenue in Flushing, Queens from 1884 to 1909. He was educated in Flushing and graduated from the Columbia University School of Architecture in Manhattan, New York in 1907. Career After graduating high school, he worked as an architect with the Office of Public Works (Auxiliar Obras Publicas) for the next two years in Cuba. Returning to the U.S., he worked for six years under Grosvenor Atterbury in Long Island before becoming a partner in the firm of Goodwin, Bullard & Woolsey. In 1921, he opened his own office at 607 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. Plainfield Country Club
Plainfield Country Club is a private country club and golf course located in Edison, New Jersey, Edison in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. It was founded in 1890 as the Hillside Tennis Club. Its golf course was designed in 1916 by golf course designer Donald Ross (golfer), Donald Ross, and opened BC for play in 1921. The architect of the clubhouse was Roger Bullard. Handicap system In 1904, Leighton Calkins—who served as the mayor of Plainfield, New Jersey, from 1915 through 1920—created the Golf handicap, handicap system currently used in golf today. In honor of Calkins, a set of tees at the Plainfield Country Club bears his name. Later history Plainfield Country Club has been home to the 1978 U.S. Amateur, the 1987 U.S. Women's Open, several state and regional championships, and has been ranked among the best in the country.
