Rodrigo Ávila
Rodrigo Ávila (born 25 June 1964) is a Salvadoran politician. He stood as the presidential candidate for the Nationalist Republican Alliance during the 2009 Salvadoran presidential election. Upon his nomination, Ávila also became the president of ARENA. He lost to Mauricio Funes of the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN), making him the first ARENA candidate to lose a presidential election since Roberto D'Aubuisson in 1984. Personal life and education Rodrigo Ávila is married to Celina Denys de Ávila, his second wife, and has two daughters and one stepdaughter. He is the youngest of four children; his father is Roberto Ávila Moreira, a local medical doctor, and Thelma Avilez, a homemaker originally from Nicaragua. He graduated from a local Catholic High School, Liceo Salvadoreño, in 1982, and graduated with an engineering degree in Industrial Engineering from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina. The Legislative Assembly () is the legislative branch of the government of El Salvador. History The organization was founded in 1824 as the Central American Congress (). Structure The Salvadoran legislature is a unicameral body. Until 2024, it was made up of 84 deputies, all of whom are elected by direct popular vote according to open-list proportional representation to serve three-year terms and are eligible for immediate re-election. Of these, 64 were elected in 14 multi-seat constituencies, corresponding to the country's 14 departments, which return between 3 and 16 deputies each. Elías Antonio "Tony" Saca González (born 9 March 1965) is a Salvadoran politician who was President of El Salvador from 1 June 2004 to 1 June 2009. He is currently serving a minimum 10-year prison sentence on corruption charges. Santa Tecla () is a city and a municipality in the La Libertad Department (El Salvador), La Libertad department of El Salvador. It is the capital of the department of La Libertad.
