Rod McGregor
Rod McGregor (19 October 1882 – 2 August 1962) was an Australian rules footballer for the Carlton Football Club in the (then) Victorian Football League and, later, a broadcaster. Family Son of Alexander McGregor and Eliza McGregor, he was born on 19 October 1882. He married Alice May Bickford (1885–1963), the sister of Albert Bickford and Edric Bickford, in 1911. Katamatite
Katamatite is a town in Victoria, Australia about 46 kilometres north east of Shepparton. At the , Katamatite had a population of 433. Katamatite is located in the Murray Valley irrigation area. Township buildings were erected in 1877 and the Post Office opened on 1 December 1877. The township's name comes from the Kwat Kwat people and was the name of a creek. It was possibly pronounced "eet" rather than "ite." The town has an Australian rules football team competing in the Picola & District Football League. The team received publicity and notoriety back in 1925, when they defeated Wattville 78.19 (487) to 1.3 (9), in an attempt to win the minor premiership on percentage from Dookie. The 1912 VFL season was the 16th season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest-level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. 1908 Melbourne Carnival
The 1908 Melbourne Carnival was the inaugural Australian National Football Carnival, an Australian football interstate competition, held in Melbourne in August 1908. It was known at the time as the Jubilee Australasian Football Carnival because it was designed to commemorate 50 years of Australian football. It was the first time in which all Australian states and New Zealand had competed together in the sport. The winning team was presented with a silk pennant; and each member of the winning team received a gold championship medal. Although the 29 August final between Victoria and Western Australia was played in front of something like 15,000 spectators, it is certain that the crowd would have been considerably larger if it had not also been the first day of the American Fleet's eight-day visit to Melbourne. Australian Football Hall Of Fame
The Australian Football Hall of Fame was established in 1996, the 1996 AFL season, centenary year of the Australian Football League, to help recognise the contributions made to the sport of Australian rules football by players, umpires, media personalities, coaches and administrators. The initial intake included 136 inductees, with twelve awarded Legend status. As of 2025, this figure has grown to more than 300, including 33 Legends.
