Rod Allen (advertising Executive)
Roderick Howard Allen (16 May 1929 – 22 August 2007) was a British advertising executive who wrote many well known advertising slogans and jingles used in the United Kingdom. He was nicknamed the "jingle king". Allen was born in Consett, County Durham and worked in advertising from the age of 17. His career was only interrupted by National Service in the Royal Corps of Signals. In 1966, Allen joined Mike Brady and Peter Marsh to co-found the advertising agency Allen, Brady and Marsh, which was one of the five largest agencies in the UK during the early 1980s until its demise in the late 80s following a take-over by another ad agency, Lowe. Advertising slogans are short phrases used in advertising campaigns to generate publicity and unify a company's marketing strategy. The phrases may be used to attract attention to a distinctive product feature or reinforce a company's brand. British Ever Ready Electrical Company
The British Ever Ready Electrical Company (BEREC) was a British electrical firm formed in 1906 as the export branch of the American Eveready Battery Company. In 1914 it became independent of its American parent company. For decades the firm dominated the UK consumer battery market and had several factories in the UK, the largest of which was built at Tanfield Lea, County Durham, in 1968. Other factories included Dawley, Four Ashes, Maldon, Newburn, London (Victoria Works, Forest Road and from 1936, the St Ann's Works in Harringay) and Park Lane, Wolverhampton. Whitbread
Whitbread is a British multinational hotel and restaurant company headquartered in Houghton Regis, England. Everest Home Improvement was a British double glazing and home improvement company. The company was founded in 1964 but went into administration in June 2020. A new company called Everest 2020 limited was formed in June 2020 following the administration, saving 1,000 jobs in the process. History Everest was founded by Lewis Golden in 1964. Cyril Lord
Cyril Lord (12 July 1911 – 29 May 1984) was a British entrepreneur, known principally for the manufacture of carpets during the 1960s. Born in Droylsden in Lancashire, Lord spent his early years living in a community of textile mill-workers. His main carpet factory was at Donaghadee in the north of County Down in Ulster. This factory was largely designed by Billy McAlister, a Belfast architect, and his team. Lord was married three times. In 1936 he married Bessie Greenwood, and they had one son and two daughters before divorcing in 1959. In 1960, he married the author and journalist Shirley Florence Hussey (''née'' Stringer, later married to journalist Abe Rosenthal) with whom he had one son. They divorced in 1973. In 1974 Lord married Aileen Parnell, widow of the impresario Val Parnell.
