Rod Adair
Rod Adair is an American politician who served as a member of the New Mexico Senate for district 33 from 1997 to 2013. Early life and education Adair was born in Hagerman, New Mexico and graduated from Hagerman High School. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Eastern New Mexico University in 1975 and a Master of Arts in government from Campbell University in 1985. Career Adair served in the United States Army from 1976 to 1996 and was stationed in Korea and 15 South American countries. He ended his career as a professor of military science at the New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell. Adair was elected to the New Mexico Senate in 1996 and assumed office in 1997. Also in 1996, Adair founded New Mexico Demographic Research. Initially a candidate for re-election in 2012, Adair withdrew from the race after facing a primary challenge from William Burt. William Burt (politician)
William F. Burt (born in Deming, New Mexico) is an American politician and a Republican member of the New Mexico Senate representing District 33 since January 15, 2013. Burt served consecutively in the District 40 seat from his appointment January 14, 2011 by Governor of New Mexico Susana Martinez to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Senator Dianna Duran, who was elected Secretary of State until the end of the legislative session. Education Burt earned his bachelor's degree from New Mexico State University. Dianna Duran
Dianna Duran (born July 26, 1956) is an American politician who served as the 24th Secretary of State of New Mexico. A Republican, she was the first member of her party in 80 years to serve in the position. On October 22, 2015, she resigned her position amid a corruption and campaign law investigation. She subsequently pleaded guilty to six of 65 fraud and embezzlement charges against her as part of an agreement reached with the Attorney General of New Mexico. Duran was sentenced to 30 days in jail and began her sentence on December 18, 2015. She was previously a New Mexico State Senator from District 40, first elected in 1992. Family Duran began her political career as a deputy county clerk in Otero County and served from 1988 to 1992 as Otero County Clerk. The ''Albuquerque Journal'' is the largest newspaper in the U.S. state of New Mexico. History The ''Golden Gate'' newspaper was founded in June 1880. In the fall of 1880, the owner of the ''Golden Gate'' died and Journal Publishing Company was created. Journal Publishing changed the paper name to ''Albuquerque Daily Journal'' and issued its first edition of the ''Albuquerque Daily Journal'' on October 14, 1880. The ''Daily Journal'' was first published in Old Town Albuquerque, but in 1882 the publication moved to a single room in the so-called new town (or expanded Albuquerque) at Second and Silver streets near the railroad tracks. It was published on a single sheet of newsprint, folded to make four pages. Those pages were divided into five columns with small headlines. Advertising appeared on the front page. Roswell, New Mexico
Roswell () is a city in, and the seat of, Chaves County in the U.S. state of New Mexico. Chaves County forms the entirety of the Roswell micropolitan area. As of the 2020 census it had a population of 48,422, making it the fifth-largest city in New Mexico. It is home of the New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI), founded in 1891. The city is also the location of an Eastern New Mexico University campus. Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge is located a few miles northeast of the city on the Pecos River. Bottomless Lakes State Park is located east of Roswell on US 380. The Roswell incident was named after the town, though the crash site of the alleged UFO was some from Roswell and closer to Corona. New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI) is a public military junior college and high school in Roswell, New Mexico. Founded in 1891, NMMI operates under the auspices of the State of New Mexico, under a dedicated Board of Regents that reports to the Governor of New Mexico. Located in downtown Roswell, NMMI enrolls nearly 1,000 cadets at the junior college and high school levels each year. NMMI is the only state-supported military college located in the western United States and has many notable alumni who have served at senior levels in the military and private sector. The Republican Party, also referred to as the GOP ("Grand Old Party"), is one of the two major contemporary political parties in the United States.
