Robyn Selby Smith
Robyn Selby Smith (born 26 November 1980 in Melbourne) is an Australian former rower. She is a national champion, a three-time world champion and an Olympian whose international success came in sweep-oared heavyweight crews. Club and state rowing Selby Smith's senior rowing was from the Mercantile Rowing Club in Melbourne. She was selected in representative Victorian state eights to compete for the Queen's Cup in the Interstate Regatta at the Australian Rowing Championships on ten occasions between 2002 and 2012. Those Victorian eights were victorious on seven of those occasions. In 2005 and 2006 she was also Victoria's senior sculling representative contesting the Nell Slatter Trophy at those same Australian championships. In 2011 she won she Australian national quad scull title in an Australian selection composite crew. Mercantile Rowing Club
The Mercantile Rowing Club is based in Melbourne, Australia on the Yarra River. It was founded in 1880 and has occupied its current site since 1885. More than 40 Mercantillians have represented Australia at Olympic Games. Club history A group of sportsmen interested in the advancement of amateur rowing met at Young and Jackson's Hotel on 19 September 1880 and the Mercantile Rowing club was born. William S Boyd was a driving influence and the club's first Captain. The club was initially named The Junior Warehouseman's Rowing Club and then changed its name in 1881. Boats and facilities were borrowed from the Greenlands boatshed next to the Prices Bridge until 1884 when the member's decided to lease land and build their own boatshed at the club's current location. The current boathouse was built in 1973, after a fire destroyed the previous shed on 6 May 1973. Amber Bradley
Amber Bradley (born 19 May 1980 in Wickham, Western Australia) is an Australian former rower - a six time Australian national sculling champion, a two time World Champion, dual Olympian and an Olympic medal winner. She won her World Championships in both sculling and sweep-oared boat classes. Club and state rowing Bradley was educated at Penrhos College, Perth where she took up rowing. She won the national Schoolgirl Scull title at the Australian Rowing Championships in 1997. She was first selected to represent Western Australian, age fifteen, in the 1996 youth eight competing for the Bicentennial Cup at the Interstate Regatta within the 1996 Australian Rowing Championships. Rowing is the act of propelling a human-powered watercraft using the sweeping motions of oars to displace water and generate reactional propulsion. Kate Hornsey (born 19 October 1981, in Hobart) is an Australian former three-time world champion, dual Olympian and Olympic silver medal-winning rower. Club and national rowing Hornsey took up rowing when she was 12 years old in New Norfolk, Tasmania. Her senior rowing was from New Norfolk club and the Mercantile Rowing Club in Melbourne. Hornsey was selected in the Tasmanian representative VIIIs who raced for the Queen's Cup at the Australian Rowing Championships on seven occasions from 2003 to 2008 and in 2014.
