Robyn Hendricks
Robyn Hendricks is a South African ballet dancer who is a principal artist with The Australian Ballet. Biography Hendricks grew up in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. She started ballet late, at the age of eight, after her grandfather recognised her potential. She studied in the Cecchetti method and qualified for the Cecchetti International Competition in Melbourne in 2001, during which she was invited to audition for The Australian Ballet School. While at the school, she studied with The National Ballet School of Canada for four weeks. In 2005 she joined The Australian Ballet and was promoted soloist in 2011. She was promoted to senior artist in 2016 and named principal artist later the same year. Hendricks is married to former fellow company member Charles Thompson. Both females and males can practice ballet; however, dancers have a strict hierarchy and strict gender roles. Stanton De Burgh Welch (born 1969) is an Australian dancer and choreographer. He currently serves as the Artistic Director of the Houston Ballet. Early life Welch was born in Melbourne to Marilyn Jones and Garth Welch, two prominent Australian dancers. Career Welch was initially trained at the dance school run by his parents. In 1989, after a year as a scholarship student at the San Francisco Ballet School, Welch was accepted into the Australian Ballet where he became a leading soloist. Christopher Peter Wheeldon OBE (born 22 March 1973) is an English international choreographer of contemporary ballet. Life and career Born in Yeovil, Somerset, to an engineer and a physical therapist, Wheeldon began training to be a ballet dancer at the age of 8. He attended the Royal Ballet School between the ages of 11 and 18. In 1991, Wheeldon joined the Royal Ballet, London; and in that same year, he won the gold medal at the Prix de Lausanne competition.
