Roberval Air Station
The Roberval Air Station was a station of the Canadian Air Board's Flying Operations Branch located in Roberval, Quebec. Roberval was one of five stations established by the Flying Operations Branch during its first summer of operations in 1920. The station operated Curtiss HS-2L aircraft on photographic survey operations in coordination with the Government of Quebec. The first HS-2L arrived at the station by air from Dartmouth on 19 July 1920 and the two assigned aircraft flew a total of 73 hours before closing down for the winter. Photographic survey operations were continued in 1921, including laying down fuel caches as far as Lake Mistassini to expand operations in future years and totaling 178 flying hours. A third aircraft was added to the station's strength for the 1922 flying season, but the station did not open until 29 June due to delays in reaching an agreement with the provincial government for funding. Air Board (Canada)
The Air Board was Canada's first governing body for aviation, operating from 1919 to 1923. The Canadian government established the Air Board by act of Parliament on June 6, 1919, with the purpose of controlling all flying within Canada. Canada was the first country to legislate and implement rules governing the entire domain of aviation. Functions The Air Board had three functions: devising a means of, and administering Canadian air defence; controlling and conducting all civil (non-military) government flying operations; and providing rules and regulations for flying within Canada, which included licensing, issuing air regulations and managing air traffic. Roberval, Quebec
Roberval () is a city on the south-western shore of Lac Saint-Jean in the Le Domaine-du-Roy Regional County Municipality of Quebec, Canada. With a population of 9,840 in the Canada 2021 Census, it is the fourth largest city on this lake after Alma, Quebec, Alma, Dolbeau-Mistassini and Saint-Félicien, Quebec, Saint-Félicien. It is the seat of the Domaine-du-Roy RCM and the main service centre for the region with a hospital and some government services. Curtiss HS-2L
The Curtiss HS was a single-engined patrol flying boat built for the United States Navy during World War I. Large numbers were built from 1917 to 1919, with the type being used to carry out anti-submarine patrols from bases in France from June 1918. It remained in use with the US Navy until 1928, and was also widely used as a civil passenger and utility aircraft. Lake Mistassini
Lake Mistassini () is the largest natural lake by surface area in the province of Quebec, Canada, with a total surface area of approximately and a net area (water surface area only) of . It is located in the Jamésie region of the province, approximately east of James Bay. The Cree town of Mistissini is located on Watson Peninsula in the south-east corner of the lake, which separates Baie du Poste from Abatagouche Bay.
