Roberto Kreimerman
Roberto Kreimerman (Montevideo, 1958) is a Uruguayan engineer and politician. He graduated in Chemical Engineering from the University of the Republic (Uruguay). Afterwards he got a postgraduate degree from the University of Barcelona. A member of the Broad Front, during 2010-2014 he served as Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining in the cabinet of President José Mujica. As of 2019, Kreimerman left the Broad Front and joined Popular Unity, running for a Senate seat in the 2019 Uruguayan general election General elections were held in Uruguay on Sunday, 27 October 2019 to elect the President and General Assembly. General elections were held in Uruguay on Sunday, 27 October 2019 to elect the President and General Assembly. As no presidential candidate received a majority in the first round of voting, a runoff election took place on 24 November. In the 2014 elections, the left-wing Broad Front had won a third consecutive election with absolute majorities in both houses of the General Assembly. The Broad Front's term in office еarned support through the creation of a large welfare system, but at the same time was undermined by an increasing budget deficit, along with rising unemployment and a spike in violence. Montevideo () is the capital and largest city of Uruguay. According to the 2011 census, the city proper has a population of 1,319,108 (about one-third of the country's total population) in an area of . Popular Unity ( es, Unidad Popular) is a Uruguayan electoral alliance of Left-wing and Socialist political parties. José Alberto "Pepe" Mujica Cordano (; born 20 May 1935) is a Uruguayan politician, former revolutionary and farmer who served as the 40th president of Uruguay from 2010 to 2015. A former guerrilla with the Tupamaros, he was tortured and imprisoned for 14 years during the military dictatorship in the 1970s and 1980s. A member of the Broad Front coalition of left-wing parties, Mujica was Minister of Livestock, Agriculture, and Fisheries from 2005 to 2008 and a Senator afterwards.
