Robert Williams (Royal Navy Officer)
Robert Williams (1765–1827) was a rear-admiral in the Royal Navy. Life Robert Williams, born in 1765, entered the navy in January 1777 on board the ''Ardent'', then commanded by Lord Mulgrave. Early in 1778 he was moved to the ''America'' of 64 guns, with Lord Longford, and in her was present in the action off Ushant on 27 July 1778. In 1780 he went out to North America in the '' London'', flagship of Rear-admiral Thomas Graves (afterwards Lord Graves), and in her was present in the action off the Chesapeake on 16 March 1781. In August he was appointed to the ''Royal Oak'' as acting-lieutenant; on 5 September took part in the action off the Chesapeake, and on 12 April 1782 in the action near Dominica. Queen Square, Bath
Queen Square is a square of Georgian houses in the city of Bath, England. Queen Square is the first element in "the most important architectural sequence in Bath", which includes the Circus and the Royal Crescent. All of the buildings which make up the square are Grade I listed. The original development was undertaken by John Wood, the Elder in the early 18th century. He designed the building frontages following the rules of Palladian architecture and then sub-let to individual builders to put up the rest of the buildings. The obelisk in the centre of the square was erected by Beau Nash in 1738 in honour of Frederick, Prince of Wales. During World War II several buildings on the south side of the square were damaged by bombing during the Bath Blitz. Constantine Phipps, 2nd Baron Mulgrave
Constantine John Phipps, 2nd Baron Mulgrave (30 May 1744 – 10 October 1792) was an English explorer and officer in the Royal Navy. He served during the Seven Years' War and the American War of Independence, seeing action in a number of battles and engagements. Inheriting a title, he also went on to have a successful career in Parliament and occupied a number of political offices during his later years. Family and early life Phipps was born on 30 May 1744, the eldest son of Constantine Phipps, 1st Baron Mulgrave and his wife, Lepel Hervey, the eldest daughter of John 2nd Baron Hervey of Ickworth and Mary 'Molly' Lepel. HMS Blenheim (1761)
HMS ''Blenheim'' was a 90-gun second-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, built by Israel Pownoll and launched on 5 July 1761 at Woolwich. In 1797 she participated in the Battle of Cape St Vincent. In 1801 ''Blenheim'' was razeed to a third rate. She disappeared off Madagascar with all hands in February 1807. Service ''Blenheim'' was first ordered to be built in November 1755 as part of an Admiralty program to expand the Royal Navy fleet ahead of the onset of the Seven Years' War with France. Construction was assigned to the Navy dockyard at Woolwich with an intended completion date of September 1759. Admiral Sir William Parker, 1st Baronet (1 January 1743 – 31 October 1802), was a British naval commander. Naval career William Parker's father, Augustine Parker, had been mayor of Queenborough, Isle of Sheppey, Kent and a commander of one of the king's yachts. William Parker entered the navy about 1756 and in 1758 was on during the capture of Louisbourg in Canada and the capture of Quebec the following year. He was promoted to lieutenant in 1762. For a time he served off the coast of Newfoundland and was promoted to commander in 1763. In 1777 he went to the West Indies where he served under Byron. HMS ''Elephant'' was a 74-gun third-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy. She was built by George Parsons in Bursledon, Hampshire, and launched on 24 August 1786. In late November 1790 the ship narrowly avoided destruction when lightning struck her whilst she was in Portsmouth harbour. The main topmast exploded but did not plunge through the quarterdeck as it was still held by the toprope. Sir Charles Thompson, 1st Baronet
Sir Charles Thompson, 1st Baronet (c.1740 – 17 March 1799) was a British naval officer. After long service in the Seven Years' War, American War of Independence and War of the First Coalition, he was Admiral John Jervis's second in command at the battle of Cape St Vincent. However, his disregard for Jervis's signal to tack to counter a Spanish attacking move nearly lost the battle, and began an enmity with Jervis that eventually (with ill health) led to Thompson's retirement.
