Robert Sullivan (born 28 June 1949) is a British judoka. He competed in the Judo at the 1972 Summer Olympics – Men's 70 kg, men's half-middleweight event at the 1972 Summer Olympics. Robert Sullivan (born 1967) is a Māori people, Māori poet, academic and editor. His published poetry collections include ''Jazz Waiata'' (1990), ''Star Waka'' (1999) and ''Shout Ha! to the Sky'' (2010). His books have a Postmodernism, postmodern quality and "explore social and racial subjects, and aspects of Māori tradition and history." He is "widely seen as one of the most important contemporary Māori poets". Biography Sullivan is of Māori and Irish descent. His grandfather was an immigrant to New Zealand from Galway. He identifies with the Ngā Puhi (Ngāti Manu/Ngāti Hau) and Ngāi Tahu, Kāi Tahu iwi, and describes himself as multicultural. Robert Austin Sullivan (July 20, 1947 – November 30, 1983) was an American man who was executed by the state of Florida in the electric chair for the 1973 murder of a Howard Johnson's restaurant manager. He was the second person to be executed in Florida after capital punishment was reinstated in 1976, and at the time of his execution, he had been on death row longer than anyone else in the United States. His execution generated attention when Pope John Paul II personally pleaded for clemency to spare Sullivan's life; however, Governor Bob Graham refused the appeal. Sullivan was executed in 1983 and maintained his innocence to the end. Early life Sullivan was born on July 20, 1947, in Boston, Massachusetts. Robert Baldwin Sullivan, (May 24, 1802 – April 14, 1853), was an Irish-Canadian lawyer, judge, and politician who became the second Mayor of Toronto, Upper Canada. Career In 1835, he was elected to Toronto City Council of the year-old city of Toronto and was chosen to be mayor. He added a business-like atmosphere to council with the official 'robes of office'. The Council worked on matters like tax rates, grants and the removal of 'filth and nuisances from the city streets'. On May 6, 1835, Council's Committee on draining and paving approved construction of the city's first main sewer on King Street into which all drains and sewers were to be connected. Bobby Sullivan is a musician and activist. He grew up in the Washington, DC punk scene. Forming Soulside in 1983, their first release under the name Lunch Meat was a split 7" with Dave Grohl's first band, Mission Impossible. After the first 7", all their work (three albums and another 7") was produced by Ian MacKaye and released on Dischord Records. Soulside toured extensively in the US, Canada, and Mexico, and toured Europe in 1989, including Eastern Europe. Soulside were the only American band to play at one of the illegal punk shows held in East Berlin in the 1980s, shows put on in tolerant Lutheran churches against the wishes of the dictatorship and its security organs such as the Stasi. The shows normally featured banned East German groups, and only rarely did international bands appear, traveling into East Berlin on tourist visas and playing in borrowed gear.
