Robert Small (minister)
Robert Small FRSE (1732–1808) was a Scottish minister who served as Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in 1791. He was keenly interested in mathematics and astronomy and was a founder member of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, (elected Fellow on 17 November 1783) to whose ''Transactions'' he contributed a paper proving some theorems in geometry. He was Minister of the first charge (St Mary's) in the Parish of Dundee, and used his mathematical abilities to compile, in 1792, an exemplary Report on his Parish for the First Statistical Account of Scotland. In 1804 he published an explanation of Kepler's laws of planetary motion. He was very active in social improvements in his parish, organising (in conjunction with Robert Stewart, a surgeon) a subscription for Voluntary Dispensary, and Surgery, which eventually became Dundee Royal Infirmary. Robert Small is an American television, film and event producer who co-created '' MTV Unplugged'' with Jim Burns in 1989. He is the president and executive producer of RSE, Robert Small Entertainment, a media production company based in New York City. In 2013 Small began developing his new company, Small Industries, to focus on digital content creation and special projects exploring virtual reality, augmented reality and holographic entertainment. Television production In 1989, Small and then partner Jim Burns co-created the music series '' MTV Unplugged'', which they then executive produced. He was an executive producer for the ''Pulp Comics'' series for Comedy Central, which integrated short films and standup material in the same half hour format. It ran from 1996 to 2000. Robert Small (trade Unionist)
Robert Mathieson Small (14 April 1873 – 26 September 1918) was a Scottish trade unionist and political activist. Small was born in Glasgow, the second son of William Small, who became the secretary of the Lanarkshire Miners' County Union (LCMU), and Janet "Jessie" Bell Scott. Robert was the younger brother of William B. Small and older brother of Lothian Small. Robert followed his father and William B. by becoming an agent of the LCMU;Alan Campbell, ''The Scottish Miners, 1874-1939: Trade unions and politics'', pp.101, 106 in his case, covering the Harthill area. The LCMU was part of the Scottish Miners' Federation (SMF), so when the Amalgamated Miners and Manual Workers Union (AMMW) in West Lothian left the SMF, Small was sent to the area to attempt to found a rival union. He tried to persuade leading activist James Doonan to join the new endeavour, but Doonan refused, and eventually the AMMW rejoined the SMF. Robert Hardy Small
Robert Hardy Small (15 December 1891 – 5 October 1976) was a Progressive Conservative party member of the House of Commons of Canada. Although a lifelong Toronto resident, Small was born in Morrow, Ohio, United States, near Cincinnati, when his parents were temporarily outside of Canada. Small studied at the Ontario College of Art before working for advertising company E. L. Ruddy (since acquired by Claude Neon), becoming the company's production manager by his retirement. Between 1947 and 1951, Small was the Canadian Grand Master of the Orange Lodge, in which he participated for much of his life. In 1928, he gained controversy when he spoke out against federal plans to issue government cheques in both English and French, as proposed in a Liberal party private member's bill.
