Robert D. (Bob) Rose (born July 16, 1931) is a politician in Manitoba, Canada. He was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba from 1988 to 1990, representing the south Winnipeg riding of St. Vital for the Manitoba Liberal Party. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Rose worked as a broker before entering political life. Robert Rose (1806-1849), who styled himself the Bard of Colour, was a mixed-race poet from the West Indies active in early Victorian Manchester. Life Rose was born in the West Indies in 1806 or 1808, and is believed to have migrated to Salford as a child. Though himself a gentleman of independent means, he was associated with a group of working class poets known as the Sun Inn Group, who met regularly at the Sun Inn on Long Millgate, Manchester. This group included John Critchley Prince, Charles Swain, John Bolton Rogerson, Elijah Ridings, and Samuel Bamford. Robert John Rose (February 28, 1930 – March 2, 2022) was an American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. Rose served as bishop of the Diocese of Gaylord in Michigan from 1981 to 1989 and as bishop of the Diocese of Grand Rapids in Michigan from 1989 to 2003. Biography Early life Robert Rose was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on February 28, 1930, to Urban Henry and Maida Ann (née Glerum) Rose. Rose attended St. Francis Xavier School in Grand Rapids and in 1944 entered St. Joseph's Seminary in the same city. David Robert "Bob" Rose (August 9, 1933 in Bunclody, near Souris, Manitoba; – January 7, 2000) was a Canadian politician in Manitoba. He was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba from 1990 to 1995 representing the rural riding of Turtle Mountain for the Progressive Conservative Party. The son of David Francis Rose and Mary Cummings Gordon, Rose was educated at the University of Manitoba in the Faculty of Agriculture, and worked as a farmer as well as distributing seed in Canada and the United States. He was a school trustee on the Bunclody School Board, and spent 17 years as a representative to the Souris Valley School Division.
