Robert Phillips (actor)
Robert R. Phillips (April 10, 1925 – November 5, 2018) was an American film and television actor. Life and career Phillips was born in Chicago, Illinois. He was a self-defense instructor while serving in the United States Marine Corps, during World War II and later played football for the Chicago Bears and the Washington Redskins. Phillips was also a police officer in the Los Angeles Police Department and Illinois State Police. He was a personal bodyguard for the 31st Governor of Illinois, Adlai Stevenson II. Phillips began his film and television career in the 1950s, in which a film producer told him to become an actor. Phillips attended an acting school. He retired from being a police officer in 1963. In his film and television career, Phillips was preferred as a "tough guy", for which he was frequently hired by studios to appear in Lee Marvin's films in Hollywood, California, including ''The Killers'' (1964) and '' Cat Ballou'' (1965). Robert Schaeffer Phillips (1938 – January 21, 2022) was an American poet and professor of English at the University of Houston. He was the author or editor of more than 30 volumes of poetry, fiction, poetry criticism and other works. Early life and education Phillips was born in Milford, Delaware in 1938 to Thomas Allen Phillips and Katheryn Schaeffer Phillips. He attended schools within the Milford School District. Phillips received B.A. (1960) and M.A. (1963) degrees double majoring in journalism and English literature from Syracuse University. Robert Phillips (born July 26, 1953, New York City) is an American classical guitarist. Early life Born Robert Michael Phillips, he is the son of Dr. Robert Warren Phillips and Dr. Irma Phillips who lived, although only briefly, in Valley Stream, New York. A few months after his birth his parents returned to his mother's native Puerto Rico, living in San Juan. Three years later they returned to the U.S., living for two years in Brooklyn, New York and then moving to Deer Park, New York. He attended Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic school and then Seton Hall High School. Music career Education Phillips began his musical training at age 8 on the accordion. He began to teach himself the guitar at age 12. He did not work with a teacher until 1967, when he began to learn finger-style folk guitar. Robert Needham Philips DL (1815 – 28 February 1890) was an English merchant and manufacturer in the Lancashire textiles business, a Liberal Party politician, and the grandfather of the Whig historian G. M. Trevelyan. He lived in Manchester and in Warwickshire, and after holding at least three ceremonial appointments he was the Member of Parliament (MP) for the borough of Bury, a mill town which was then in Lancashire, for a total of 22 years between 1857 and 1885. Education Dr. Phillips received his undergraduate degree at Iowa State University. He studied medicine at Washington University School of Medicine, graduating in 1929. He received a National Research Council Fellowship at Harvard Medical School and also received surgical training at Yale School of Medicine. Career During World War II he developed battlefield methods to evaluate hemoglobin levels using specific gravity saving many lives. This method is used in blood donor clinics to determine whether a person is healthy enough to donate blood.
