Robert Parissi
Robert Parissi (born 29 December 1950) is an American singer, songwriter, and musician, best known as frontman for the American funk group Wild Cherry (band), Wild Cherry. He also wrote the group's only hit, the 1976 chart-topping "Play That Funky Music". He was raised in the steel mill town of Mingo Junction, Ohio, Mingo Junction, Ohio. He graduated from Mingo High School in 1968. Rob formed the band Wild Cherry in 1970 in Steubenville, Ohio, one mile north of Mingo Junction along the Ohio River. The band played the Ohio Valley region, Wheeling, West Virginia, Wheeling, West Virginia and the rest of the Northern West Virginia panhandle, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After Wild Cherry disbanded in 1979 without another major hit, Parissi became a producer and dedicated himself to adult contemporary music. Mingo Junction, Ohio
Mingo Junction is a village (United States)#Ohio, village in Jefferson County, Ohio, United States, along the Ohio River. The population was 3,347 at the 2020 United States census, 2020 census. It is part of the Weirton–Steubenville metropolitan area. History The Mingo Native Americans in the United States, Indian tribe once had a settlement at the location of the present-day village, which is the source of its name. Originally known as Mingo Bottom or Mingo Town, it was the starting point for the ill-fated Crawford expedition against Native Americans in 1782, during the American Revolutionary War. In 1770, George Washington set out on an expedition to explore the Ohio River Valley. On October 22 he camped overnight in what was known then as Mingo Town, describing it as blustery and cold with about 20 cabins and 70 inhabitants of the Iroquois Confederation. Smooth Jazz
Smooth jazz is commercially oriented crossover jazz music. Although often described as a "genre", it is a debatable and highly controversial subject in jazz music circles. As a radio format, however, smooth jazz radio became the successor to easy listening music on radio station programming from the mid-1970s through the early 1990s. History Smooth jazz may be thought of as commercially-oriented, crossover jazz which came to prominence in the 1980s, displacing the more venturesome jazz fusion from which it emerged. ''Electrified Funk'' is the second studio album by the funk rock band Wild Cherry, released in 1977. It contains the track "Baby Don't You Know", which roughly continues the theme and story of their 1976 hit " Play That Funky Music" by effectively explaining that, contrary to popular belief, all of the band's members were white despite its typically-Black funk/R&B sound. The song peaked at number 43 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became their second-highest charting hit.
