Robert Holmes (barrister)
Robert Holmes (1765 – 7 October 1859) was an Ireland, Irish lawyer and nationalist. Early life Holmes was born in Dublin in 1765, the son of parents who were natives of Antrim, County Antrim, Antrim and settled at Belfast, was born during a visit of his parents to Dublin in 1765. He entered Trinity College, Dublin in 1782, and graduated B.A. in 1787. He at first devoted himself to medicine, but he soon turned his attention to the law. In 1795 he was called to the bar. He spent a substantial period of his professional life travelling the north-east circuit in Ireland, where he gained a reputation for great ability and legal skill. Robert West Holmes (25 September 1856 – 8 February 1936) was a New Zealand civil engineer. He was born on 25 September 1856 in London. Robert Holmes (astronomer)
Robert E. Holmes Jr. (b. 1956) is an American amateur astronomer and professional photographer. In 2002 Holmes founded Astronomical Research Institute (ARI), a non-profit organization offering students observation time from telescopes installed at the Astronomical Research Observatory originally in Charleston, Illinois and later at Westfield, Illinois. The Minor Planet Center credits him with the discovery of thirteen asteroids made between 2004 and 2010, partly in collaboration with Harlan Devore and Tomáš Vorobjov. In 2008, with and robotic telescopes at his Charleston observatory that he built himself, Holmes reported 11,593 observations of asteroids and near-earth objects to the Minor Planet Center, more than any other professional or amateur observatory. Holmes discovered comet C/2008 N1 (Holmes). The asteroid 5477 Holmes is named for him. Robert Holmes born March 31, 1959 is an English-born guitarist, best known for his work as guitarist/vocalist/writer in the American new wave band 'Til Tuesday, the former band of Aimee Mann. He first moved to America with his family at the age of seven. From 'til Tuesday to Ultra Blue In 1988, he formed a bluesy rock quartet called Ultra Blue with his wife Glenda who sang backups for Robert and occasionally sang lead. Ultra Blue won best new artist at the Boston Music Awards in 1989 and made many recordings. Several sessions were paid for by Epic records but a recording contract never materialized. In 1993, Ultra Blue was put on the back burner when Holmes joined up with Street Magic, an a cappella quintet specializing in Doo Wop. Robert Colin Holmes (2 April 1926 – 24 May 1986) was a British television scriptwriter. For over 25 years, he contributed to some of the most popular programmes screened in the UK. He is particularly remembered for his work on science fiction programmes, most notably his extensive contributions to ''Doctor Who'', which included working as its script editor from 1974 to 1977. Holmes suffered ill health from the early 1980s. Robert Holmes (November 1748 London, England – 12 November 1805 Oxford, England) was an English churchman and academic, Dean of Winchester and a biblical scholar known for textual studies of the ''Septuagint''. Life He was baptised at St. Martin's-in-the-Fields, London, on 30 November 1748, the son of Edmund Holmes of that parish. He became a scholar of Winchester College in 1760, and went to New College, Oxford, matriculating on 3 March 1767. He won the chancellor's prize for Latin verse, the subject being 'Ars Pingendi,' in 1769, the year of it institution. Robert Holmes (Royal Navy Officer)
Admiral Sir Robert Holmes ( – 18 November 1692) was an English Royal Navy officer. He participated in the second and third Anglo-Dutch Wars, both of which he is, by some, credited with having started. He was made Governor of the Isle of Wight, where he is buried in Yarmouth Parish Church. Holmes is chiefly remembered for his exploits on the cruise to Guinea in 1664 on the behalf of the Royal African Company, and carrying out Holmes's Bonfire of 1666. He is regarded as an archetypal figure both of the quarrelsome restoration officer and of the coming into being of the British professional naval officer.
