Robert Haynes (geneticist)
Robert Hall Haynes, Order of Canada, OC, Royal Society of Canada, FRSC (27 August 1931 – 22 December 1998) was a Canadians, Canadian geneticist and biophysicist. He was the Distinguished Research Professor in the Department of Biology at York University. Haynes was best known for his contributions to the study of DNA repair and mutagenesis, and for helping promote the concept of terraforming through his invention of the term, ecopoiesis. Haynes was one of the earliest geneticists to recognize the fundamental biological importance of the DNA damage (naturally occurring), vulnerability of DNA to damage and therefore the central role of DNA repair processes. As he noted, β€œDNA is composed of rather ordinary molecular subunits, which certainly are not endowed with any peculiar kind of quantum mechanical stability. Robert Brian Haynes
Robert Brian Haynes OC is a Canadian physician, clinical epidemiologist, researcher and an academic. He is professor emeritus at McMaster University and one of the founders of evidence-based medicine. Haynes has published more than 390 articles in peer-reviewed journals and has authored/edited 14 books including ''Clinical Epidemiology: A Basic Science for Clinical Medicine'' and ''Evidence-Based Medicine: How to Practice and Teach''. His research interests include improving health care through knowledge translation and applying the findings of high-quality health-care research in clinical practice settings. He is involved with development and testing of evidence-based information products and services in clinical care. Haynes is an Officer of Order of Canada.
