Robert Harris (painter)
Robert Harris (September 18, 1849 β February 27, 1919) was a Welsh people, Welsh-born Canadians, Canadian painter, most noted for his portrait of the Fathers of Confederation. Early life Born in Caerhun, Conwy, Wales, Robert Harris grew up on his fatherβs farm before moving to Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island in 1856. Encouraged by his mother, he developed an interest in art, and to practice drawing, he often sketched images from magazines. In 1867, he travelled to Liverpool, where he independently studied and sketched from the plaster casts in the local museum, learning human anatomy and proportion. Already skilled in portraiture, and receiving commissions, he decided to pursue formal instruction in 1873 in Boston at the Lowell Institute, in London at the Slade School of Art with Alphonse Legros (1877) and at the Heatherly School of Fine Art (1877), and, finally in Paris with LΓ©on Bonnat at the Atelier Bonnat later that same year. Robert Harris (1764β1862) was a nineteenth century Anglican priest and educator, most notable for his long running campaign to create a free public library and substantive museum in Preston, Lancashire. Harris was born in Clitheroe on 20 February 1764; and was educated at the town's grammar school. He graduated B.A. from Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge in 1787; M.A. in 1790; and B.D. in 1797. Robert Harris (9 July 1809 β 16 January 1865) was a British Royal Navy captain. Biography Harris son of James Harris of Wittersham Hall, Kent, and, on the mother's side, grandson of Mrs. Trimmer. He was born on 9 July 1809; Sir William Cornwallis Harris was his elder brother. Robert Harris (July 29, 1830 β April 21, 1894) was a civil engineer and railroad executive who became president of the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad and Northern Pacific Railway. Life Robert Harris was born on July 29, 1830, in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. His father was educator William Coffin Harris (born 1767) and mother was Mary Johnson. His brother Charles Coffin Harris (1822β1881) became the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Kingdom of Hawaii. He studied civil engineering in Boston, and briefly studied law like his older brother. Robert Belmares Harris (December 17, 1966 β December 14, 1995) was an American skysurfing champion. He was the skysurfing world champion of 1994 and 1995. In December 1995, while shooting the Mountain Dew "007" commercial, based on the titular fictional character, directed by David Kellogg and lensed by Janusz KamiΕski, Harris was in descending flight when his parachute failed to open, causing him to plunge to his death toward the Vernon Regional Airport. Robert Harris (born September 26, 1963, in Halifax, Nova Scotia) is a Canadian curler. Harris played second for Mark Dacey's men's team from 2002 to 2007 and from 1998 to 1999. Harris also played Mixed with Dacey around this time. Harris, Dacey, third Heather Smith-Dacey and lead Laine Peters won the Canadian Mixed Curling Championships in 2002 after having gone to the tournament the two previous years. Robert J. Harris (born c. 1957) is an English former football referee who operated in the Football League and Premier League. He was for a time regarded as one of the best linesman on the Premier League, before his promotion to first the Football League and then the Premier League referees lists. But his Premier League referee period did not go well as he was the recipient of criticism for some very high-profile contentious incidents at Arsenal, West Ham and Tranmere which without doubt disrupted his time on the referees list. Robert Harris (born 28 August 1987) is a Scottish football player who plays at semi-professional level as a left back. Born in Glasgow, Harris started his career senior at Clyde. At Queen of the South he made over 100 first team appearances, including in the 2008 Scottish Cup final, and scored in the UEFA Cup. He next moved to England playing for Blackpool and on loan at Rotherham United.
