Robert Eriksson (speedway Rider)
Robert Karl Eriksson (born 23 February 1974) is a former motorcycle speedway rider from Sweden. Career Eriksson started his career riding for Buddys during the 1991 Swedish speedway season but switched to Valsarna the following year and would spend five seasons with them. During the 1995 Swedish speedway season he became the Swedish U21 Champion. His first British league experience came during the 1995 Premier League speedway season, when he rode for Edinburgh Monarchs. He spent three seasons with the Scottish club (one of them when the team was renamed the Scottish Monarchs). He rode for Indianerna Indianerna (the Indians) are a Swedish motorcycle speedway team based in Kumla, Sweden. The club's official name is Kumla MSK and it was founded in 1936 which makes the club one of the oldest motorsport clubs in Sweden. Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four clockwise, anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of soil, dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand). Competitors use this surface to slide their machines sideways, powersliding or broadsiding into the bends. On the straight sections of the track, the motorcycles reach speeds of up to . The 1995 Premier League (speedway), Premier League season was the 61st season of the top tier of Motorcycle speedway, speedway in the United Kingdom. It was also the first for the new league, and the first of two seasons in which British speedway was competed as a single division. Summary The gulf in quality of teams was highlighted because of the merging of the two leagues, with Eastbourne Eagles winning the title 56 points clear of bottom club Exeter Falcons. The 1991 Swedish speedway season was the 1991 season of motorcycle speedway in Sweden. Individual Individual Championship The 1991 Swedish Individual Speedway Championship final was held in Vetlanda on 21 September. Peter Karlsson won the Swedish Championship for the second time. U21 Championship Jorgen Hultgren won the U21 championship. Team Team Championship Indianerna won the Elitserien and were declared the winners of the Swedish Speedway Team Championship for the second successive season. The Indianerna team included Henrik Gustafsson, Christer Rohlén, Mikael Blixt, Lars Gunnestad and Stefan Dannö. Brassarna changed their name to Nässjö and Örebro changed their name to Buddys. Vikingarna () are a Swedish motorcycle speedway team based at the Örebro Motorstadion, 9 km west of Örebro, near Örebro Airport in Sweden. Season summary History 1950 to 1954 The beginning of competitive league speedway in Örebro can be traced back to the 1950 Swedish speedway season. A club called Vikingarna finished last out of four teams in the second division. However, the following season in 1951, was much improved to the degree that the team actually won the six team division. The team competed in the highest tier for the first time during the 1952 Swedish speedway season (called division 1 at the time) but struggled in the division and were eventually relegated. A young Göte Nordin rode for the club from 1952 to 1954 and he helped them win division 2 again in 1953.
