Robert Eggplant
Robert Burnett, (born 1973) better known as Robert eggplant, is an American writer, publisher, musician and activist from Pinole, California, United States. Background Robert eggplant has been the editor and publisher of the ''Absolutely Zippo'' fanzine since 1987. The zine has documented the East Bay punk subculture from a "front-lines" point-of-view, due to eggplant's intimate involvement with this scene. Contributors have included Aaron Cometbus, Larry Livermore, Jesse Michaels, and Billie Joe Armstrong. The zine has been compiled and released in a paperback edition entitled ''Absolutely Zippo!: Anthology Of A Fanzine 1988-1998''. Robert eggplant was one of the founding members of the seminal East Bay punk rock band, Blatz, in which he played guitar. The band released a number of recordings on Lookout! Last Gasp (publisher)
Last Gasp is a San Francisco–based book publisher with a lowbrow art and counterculture focus. Owned and operated by Ron Turner, for most of its existence Last Gasp was a publisher, distributor, and wholesaler of underground comix and books of all types. Last Gasp was established in 1970. Although the company came onto the scene a bit later than some of the other underground publishers, Last Gasp continued publishing comics far longer than most of its competitors. In addition to publishing notable original titles like '' Slow Death'', '' Wimmen's Comix'', '' Binky Brown Meets the Holy Virgin Mary'', and '' Weirdo'', it also picked up the publishing reins of important titles—such as ''Zap Comix'' and '' Young Lust''—from rivals who had gone out of business. A free party is a party "free" from the restrictions of the legal club scene, similar to the Free festival, free festival movement. It typically involves a Sound system (DJ)#Free party, sound system playing electronic dance music from late at night until the time when the organisers decide to go home. A free party may be multiple sound systems. If the party becomes a festival, it becomes a teknival. ''Free'' in this context describes the entry fee and the lack of restrictions and law enforcement. Operation Ivy (band)
Operation Ivy was an American punk rock band from Berkeley, California, formed in May 1987. They were critical to the emergence of Lookout Records and the so-called "East Bay Sound." The band's name was derived from the Operation Ivy series of nuclear tests in 1952.
