Robert Chase (businessman)
Robert Timothy Chase (July 1938 – 3 March 2023) was an English businessman from Norfolk. Chase was most notable for being the chairman of football club Norwich City from 1985 to 1996. His tenure coincided with one of the most successful periods in the club's history, but ended acrimoniously. He managed a family construction business for over 40 years from the early 1960s, was a member of Norfolk County Council and chaired the Norfolk Police Authority for four years. Chase died after a short illness on 3 March 2023, at the age of 85. Norwich City chairmanship Chase was elected to the Norwich board in 1982 and became chairman in 1985. He steered Norwich through some of its greatest success, including its first (and to date only) three finishes in the top five of the English league and a notable victory against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Cup. Robert Lee Rayford (February 3, 1953 – May 15, 1969), sometimes identified as Robert R. due to his age, was an American teenager from Missouri who has been suggested to represent the earliest confirmed case of HIV/AIDS in North America. This is based on evidence published in 1988 in which the authors claimed that medical evidence indicated that he was "infected with a virus closely related or identical to human immunodeficiency virus type 1." Rayford died of pneumonia, but his other symptoms baffled the doctors who treated him. A study published in 1988 reported the detection of antibodies against HIV. Results of testing for HIV genetic material were reported at a scientific conference in Australia in 1999. However, the data has never been published in a peer-reviewed medical or scientific journal. Robert William Chase (1852–1927) was a British ornithologist, businessman, and philanthropist. His extensive collection of taxidermied birds is now in the care of Birmingham Museums Trust. Chase owned a brush-making business in Birmingham. He was elected to the British Ornithologists' Union The British Ornithologists' Union (BOU) aims to encourage the study of birds (ornithology) around the world in order to understand their biology and aid their conservation.
