Robert Brumbaugh
Robert Sherrick Brumbaugh (December 2, 1918 – July 14, 1992) was an American philosopher and a professor of medieval philosophy at Yale University. Western philosophy refers to the Philosophy, philosophical thought, traditions and works of the Western world. Historically, the term refers to the philosophical thinking of Western culture, beginning with the ancient Greek philosophy of the Pre-Socratic philosophy, pre-Socratics. Contemporary philosophy is the present period in the history of Western philosophy beginning at the early 20th century with the increasing professionalization of the discipline and the rise of analytic and continental philosophy. The Metaphysical Society of America (MSA) is a philosophy, philosophical organization founded by Paul Weiss (philosopher), Paul Weiss in 1950. As stated in its constitution, "The purpose of the Metaphysical Society of America is the study of reality." The society is a member of the American Council of Learned Societies. Early history and purpose In his opening address, "The Four-Fold Art of Avoiding Questions", Paul Weiss spoke of the need for a society that would reinvigorate philosophic inquiry.
