Robert Bogucki
Robert Bogucki (born 1966) is an American firefighter from Alaska notable for having survived 43 days in Western Australia's Great Sandy Desert before being rescued. He had headed into the desert deliberately on a spiritual quest. Background The Sandfire Roadhouse is north of Perth in Western Australia. It is on the Great Northern Highway between Port Hedland and Broome, from the coast. Bogucki left the roadhouse on 11 July 1999, initially on his bicycle. He intended to cross the Great Sandy Desert to Fitzroy Crossing. Police were called after his bicycle and a pile of clothes were found next to a track. Two Aboriginal trackers were called in to help, and a large search party searched for Bogucki but police called off the initial search for Bogucki 28 days after he had entered the desert, having damaged several vehicles and having found no trace of him. Mauro Prosperi (born 13 July 1955) is an Italian former police officer and pentathlete, most notable for his nine-day disappearance and survival in the Sahara, whilst competing in the 1994 Marathon des Sables (Marathon of the Sands) in Morocco. Early life Prosperi was born in the Italian capital city of Rome on 13 July 1955. Ricky Megee
Ricky Megee (born 1970/1971) is an Australian, most notable for having been stranded in the Outback and surviving for 71 days in 2006. Megee later gave contradictory statements as to how he came to be stranded crossing the Northern Territory and Western Australia. On one occasion he said that his car broke down, and on another that he had been carjacked by an armed gang. However, a doctor later confirmed that Megee's appearance was consistent with having lived in extreme conditions. Like most deserts, the Tanami Desert, Tanami can reach during the day but still be very cold at night. Megee made his own primitive shelters and survived by drinking rainwater and eating small animals and available vegetation for nourishment. An emergency position-indicating radiobeacon (EPIRB) is a type of emergency locator beacon for commercial and recreational boats; it is a portable, battery-powered radio transmitter used in emergencies to locate boaters in distress and in need of immediate rescue. In the event of an emergency, such as a ship sinking or medical emergency onboard, the transmitter is activated and begins transmitting a continuous 406 MHz distress radio signal, which is used by search-and-rescue teams to quickly locate the emergency and render aid.
