Robert B.C. Noorduyn
Robert Bernard Cornelis Noorduyn (April 6, 1893 – February 22, 1959) was a Dutch-born American aircraft designer and manufacturer. He is best known for the Noorduyn Norseman, a legendary Canadian bush plane produced in the 1930s to 1940s and again in the 1950s. Early life Noorduyn was born in Nijmegen, Netherlands, to a Dutch father, Bernardus Noorduijn (1860–1910), and an English mother, Harriet Ellen Churchill. After Noorduyn had received a technical training in the Netherlands and Germany, in 1913, he moved to England. There he trained to fly in a Caudron G.2 and worked as a technical draughtsmen for the Sopwith company. In 1917, Noorduyn was recruited to become the chief draughtsman for the British Aerial Transport company. Nijmegen ( , ; Nijmeegs: ) is the largest city in the Dutch province of Gelderland and the ninth largest of the Netherlands as a whole. Larry Milberry
Larry Milberry (born 1943) is a Canadian aviation author and publisher. Milberry is a lifelong aviation enthusiast whose first book, ''Aviation in Canada'', was published by McGraw-Hill in 1979. Now an aviation classic, this book was written over a decade while he worked as a high school teacher in the Toronto District Catholic School Board. He ended his teaching career to start CANAV Books, his one-man publishing operation, in 1980. He has since authored, co-authored or edited 21 books on Canadian aviation history, including many of the best-known reference books on the subject. Milberry's research has taken him to all parts of Canada and to many overseas destinations. Although never a pilot, he has flown in more than 100 types from the Ford Trimotor to the Noorduyn Norseman, C-130 Hercules, CF-18 Hornet, Pitts Special, Sikorsky Skycrane and the giant Antonov 124. Noorduyn is a Canadian manufacturer of aircraft products and accessories, specializing in high performance composites. It is headquartered in Montreal, and has offices worldwide serving the commercial, business and military aviation markets. The company was originally established as Noorduyn Aircraft Limited, an aircraft manufacturer, by Dutch immigrant Robert B. C. Noorduyn and Walter Clayton. It was established in Montreal in 1933 and in early 1934, acquired the Curtiss-Reid factory in Cartierville, Quebec, near Montreal. In 1935, it began operating as Noorduyn Aviation. Autogyro
An autogyro (from Greek and , "self-turning"), gyroscope, gyrocopter or gyroplane, is a class of rotorcraft that uses an unpowered rotor in free autorotation to develop lift. A gyroplane "means a rotorcraft whose rotors are not engine-driven, except for initial starting, but are made to rotate by action of the air when the rotorcraft is moving; and whose means of propulsion, consisting usually of conventional propellers, is independent of the rotor system." While similar to a helicopter rotor in appearance, the autogyro's unpowered rotor disc must have air flowing upward across it to make it rotate.
