Rob Powers
Rob Powers (born 1965) is an American television news anchor and journalist based at WEWS-TV 5, the Scripps-owned ABC affiliate in Cleveland, Ohio. Powers was named co-anchor of WEWS's evening newscasts in August 2016. Prior to joining WEWS, Powers was a sportscaster for several major-market television stations, including ABC flagship WABC-TV. Career Powers was born in Cleveland, Ohio. Powers' early television assignments included stops in Binghamton, New York, and Indianapolis. He was later named sports director and 5:30 p.m. news anchor for WTVG, an ABC affiliate in Toledo, Ohio (at the time also directly owned by the network). When not anchoring sports, he was the play-by-play voice announcer for University of Toledo football and basketball, as well as the city's minor league baseball team, the Toledo Mud Hens. WEWS
WEWS-TV (channel 5) is a television station in Cleveland, Ohio, United States, affiliated with ABC. It has been owned by the E. W. Scripps Company since its inception in 1946, making it one of three stations that have been built and signed on by Scripps (alongside company flagship WCPO-TV in Cincinnati and WMC-TV in Memphis, the latter of which was sold in 1993). Flagship Station
In broadcasting, a flagship (also known as a flagship station or key station) is the broadcast station which originates a television network, or a particular radio or television program that plays a key role in the branding of and consumer loyalty to a network or station. This includes both direct network feeds and broadcast syndication, but generally not backhauls. Toledo Mud Hens
The Toledo Mud Hens are a Minor League Baseball team of the International League and the Triple-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers. They are located in Toledo, Ohio, and play their home games at Fifth Third Field. A baseball team nicknamed the Mud Hens has played in Toledo for most seasons since 1896, including a 50-year history as a member of the now defunct American Association. The current franchise was established in 1965, joining the International League; this league was called the Triple-A East for the 2021 season. Background Professional baseball had been played off and on in Toledo since 1883, and the Mud Hens era began in 1896 with the " Swamp Angels", who played in the Interstate League.
