Rob Munro (politician)
Robert John Sutherland Munro (born 2 April 1946) is a former New Zealand politician of the New Zealand National Party, National Party, serving as Member of Parliament for Invercargill (New Zealand electorate), Invercargill from 1987 to 1993. Early life Munro was born in Dunedin on 2 April 1946. Military service Aged 17, Munro enlisted in the New Zealand Army in January 1964. On 13 December 1967, he graduated from the Royal Military College, Duntroon, Royal Military College. In November 1970 with the rank of captain, Munro was posted to General Staff (Intelligence) Section Headquarters, 1st Australian Task Force, at Nui Dat in Vietnam. There he was responsible for compiling the enemy order-of-battle, requiring him to analyse the organisation and capability of enemy units. Invercargill is an electorate of the New Zealand Parliament that has existed since 1866. Since the , the electorate's representative is Penny Simmonds of the New Zealand National Party, National Party. Population centres The electorate covers Invercargill city and the surrounding rural area, including Stewart Island / Rakiura. In 1996 a boundary redistribution resulted in the abolition of the Awarua (New Zealand electorate), Awarua electorate and merged with Invercargill following re-drawing of boundaries due to the introduction of mixed-member proportional voting (Mixed-member proportional representation, MMP). Minor but steady population decline in the Southland region has generally resulted in Invercargill expanding northwards. The 2013 redistribution, however, has left Invercargill unchanged. Dame Patricia Lee Reddy (born 17 May 1954) is a New Zealand lawyer and businesswoman who served as the 21st governor-general of New Zealand from 2016 to 2021. Before becoming governor-general, Reddy was a partner of a law firm, headed a major review of intelligence agencies, held multiple directorships, chaired the New Zealand Film Commission and worked as a chief negotiator on Treaty of Waitangi settlements.
