''Fantasy Island'' is an American fantasy drama television series created by Gene Levitt. It aired on ABC from 1977 to 1984. The series starred Ricardo Montalbán as the mysterious Mr. Roarke and Hervé Villechaize as his assistant, Tattoo. Guests were granted so-called "fantasies" on the island for a price. Adam Roarke (born Richard Jordan Gerler, August 8, 1937 – April 27, 1996) was an American actor and film director. Life and career Roarke was born in Brooklyn, New York, where he was a street gang member during his youth. His father was a vaudeville comedian and his mother was a chorus line dancer and showgirl. Roarke began his acting career under the name Jordan Gerler and then Jordan Grant; when he signed on with Universal Studios in 1957, though, he was told that he needed to change the name, because the studios already had one Mr. Grant ( Cary) under contract. Michael Thomas Roarke (November 8, 1930 – July 27, 2019) was an American catcher and coach in Major League Baseball. During his playing days he threw and batted right-handed, stood tall and weighed . Roarke was born in West Warwick, Rhode Island, where he graduated from West Warwick High School in 1948. He earned a B.Sc. degree in history at Boston College, and served as captain of the Eagles' football and baseball teams. He won the Scanlan Award in 1951 for outstanding ability in scholarship, leadership, and athletic ability. Minor-league apprenticeship Like his college teammate, future MLB utilityman and manager Joe Morgan, Roarke signed with the local National League club, the Boston Braves, in 1952. Roarke Smith (born 11 September 1996) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Western Bulldogs in the Australian Football League (AFL) from 2015 until 2023. Smith was drafted with the fifth selection in the 2015 rookie draft. He made his AFL debut late in the 2015 season against . Just one week after his debut, he suffered an Anterior cruciate ligament injury which left him injured until July 2016. He played in the Bulldogs' 2016 VFL premiership team. In March 2017, he again ruptured his ACL. He was delisted by the Western Bulldogs at the conclusion of the 2017 season. He was later re-drafted by the Western Bulldogs in the 2018 rookie draft.
