Road America is a motorsport Road racing, road course located near Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin on Wisconsin Highway 67. It has hosted races since the 1950s and currently hosts races in the IndyCar Series, IMSA SportsCar Championship, Sports Car Club of America GT World Challenge America and Trans-Am Series and the MotoAmerica Superbike Championship. Current track and facilities Road America is a permanent road course. Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin
Elkhart Lake is a village in northwestern Sheboygan County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 941 at the 2020 census. It is located within the Town of Rhine and is included in the Sheboygan, Wisconsin metropolitan area. Elkhart Lake may be best known for hosting road races on public county roads during the 1950s, later moving to a dedicated race track called Road America, which is located a few miles south of the village. History The area was first inhabited by the Potawatomi Indians and they named the area “Me-shay-way-odeh-ni-bis”, or Great Elk Heart Lake, because the lake resembles an elk's heart. Few people traveled to the area until the 1860s when the Mississippi Railroad came to Glenbeulah, making it possible for them to take a stagecoach the rest of the way to Elkhart. The ARCA Menards Series is an American stock car racing, stock car series, the premier division of the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA). It is considered a minor, semi-professional league of stock car racing, used as a feeder series into the three national touring series of NASCAR, and hosts events at a variety of track types including superspeedways, Road racing, road courses, and Dirt track racing, dirt tracks. The Road America 180 was a NASCAR Xfinity Series race that has taken place at Road America since 2010. The race has been a standalone race for the series except for in 2021 and 2022 when the NASCAR Cup Series had a race at the track on the same weekend as the Xfinity Series race. Since its inception, the race has featured highly competitive races and is considered one of the most unpredictable races of the season. History The track held its first Xfinity event in 2010 after the Milwaukee Mile's race was moved to the track. Road America had held a Grand National (now NASCAR Cup Series) race in the 1956 that was won by Tim Flock. Austin Leo Theriault (born January 23, 1994) is an American former professional stock car racing driver and politician who recently served in the Maine House of Representatives for the 1st district from 2022 to 2024.
