Riveo
Someo is a village and former municipality in the district of Vallemaggia (district), Vallemaggia in the canton of Ticino, Switzerland. Demography The municipality had 258 inhabitants in 2003. The municipality had an area of 32.73 km². In 2004 the municipality was incorporated into the larger, neighboring municipality Maggia, Switzerland, Maggia. Emigration In the 19th century many inhabitants migrated to France, England, California and Australia. Antonio Tognazzini founded the town Someo (now Casmalia) to honour the village of origin of his family. The aspiration to find new opportunities abroad was widespread in some cantons of Switzerland, in particular Ticino, Fribourg (canton), Fribourg and Valais. The Blenio District is a district of the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. It has a population of (as of ). The capital of the district is Acquarossa. Geography The district has an area, , of . Of this area, or 3.7% is used for agricultural purposes, while or 36.9% is forested. Of the rest of the land, or 1.8% is settled (buildings or roads), or 1.6% is either rivers or lakes and or 39.7% is unproductive land. Domenico Gilardi
Domenico Gilardi (Доменико Жилярди, 1785–1845), was a Swiss architect who worked primarily in Moscow, Russia in Neoclassicist style. He was one of key architects charged with rebuilding the city after the Fire of 1812. Gilardi’s legacy survives in public buildings like Moscow Orphanage, Widows’ House, Catherine’s Institute and the Old Hall of Moscow University. Early life The Gilardi family of architects, originally from Ticino, established itself in Russia in the middle of the 18th century. Domenico Trezzini ( Russian Андрей Якимович Трезин, ''Andrey Yakimovich Trezin''; c. 1670 – 1734) was a Swiss architect who elaborated the Petrine Baroque style of Russian architecture. Domenico was born in Astano, Landvogtei of Lugano (at that time a condominium of the Old Swiss Confederacy), in the Italian-speaking Ticino. He probably studied in Rome. Subsequently, as he was working in Denmark, he was offered by Peter I of Russia, among other architects, to design buildings in the new Russian capital city, St. Petersburg. Carlo Maderno (Maderna) (1556 – 30 January 1629) was an Italian architect, born in today's Ticino, who is remembered as one of the fathers of Baroque architecture. Domenico Fontana
Domenico Fontana (154328 June 1607) was an Italian architect of the late Renaissance, born in today's Ticino. He worked primarily in Italy, at Rome and Naples. Biography He was born at Melide, a village on the Lake Lugano, at that time joint possession of some Swiss cantons of the old Swiss Confederacy, and presently part of Ticino, Switzerland, and died at Naples. He went to Rome in 1563, to join his elder brother. He began his career as a plasterer, and then as a mason and master builder, with particular expertise in measuring and technical skills. Fontana’s first architectural project was a villa in the Piazza Pasquino for Cardinal Montalto, constructed between 1577-78.
