Ritva Puotila
Ritva Soilikki Puotila (born 7 June 1935) is a Finnish textile designer and artist. She is the artistic director of the Finnish design company Woodnotes, which she founded in 1987 alongside her son Mikko Puotila. She is known for rugs and carpets, which she typically makes from paper string and linen. The rugs have a clear graphic pattern, and influences from both Japanese and traditional Finnish crafts. She had three sons, including actor Jukka Puotila. She has received the Suomi Award in 1996, the Kaj Franck Design Award in 2000, the Pro Finlandia Medal in 2003, and the Ornamo award in 2011. Her artwork can be found in the museum collections at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, the Art Gallery of Western Australia in Perth, National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design in Oslo, and the Baltimore Museum of Art. Vyborg
Vyborg (; , ; , ; , ) is a town and the administrative center of Vyborgsky District in Leningrad Oblast, Russia. It lies on the Karelian Isthmus near the head of Vyborg Bay, northwest of St. Petersburg, east of the Finnish capital Helsinki, and south of Russia's border with Finland, where the Saimaa Canal enters the Gulf of Finland. The most recent census population of Vyborg is Vyborg was founded as a medieval fortress in Finland under Swedish rule during the Third Swedish Crusade. Karelia (: ) is a historical province of Finland, consisting of the modern-day Finnish regions of South Karelia and North Karelia plus the historical regions of Ladoga Karelia and the Karelian Isthmus, which are now in Russia. Jukka Puotila (born 9 September 1955) is a Finnish actor and impersonator. He appeared in more than sixty films since 1981. Kaj Franck
Kaj Gabriel Franck (9 November 1911 – 26 September 1989) was one of the leading figures of Finnish design and an influential figure in design and applied arts between 1940 and 1980. Franck was born in Vyborg, Grand Duchy of Finland to parents Kurt Franck and Genéviève "Vevi" Ahrenberg. He was a Swedish-speaking Finn, and he was of German descent through his father. Franck was artistic director of the Arabia ceramics company (now part of Iittala Group) and artistic director and teacher at the College of Applied Arts – the predecessor of the University of Art and Design Helsinki (now Aalto University) – since 1945, but created designs for other companies as well.
