Rito Jiménez (1951 – 20 March 2021) was a Venezuelan politician. He contested the 2020 Venezuelan parliamentary election on behalf of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela, and was elected to the National Assembly (Venezuela), National Assembly as a legislator representing Lara (state), Lara. He died in office on 20 March 2021, aged 70, of COVID-19. 2020 Venezuelan Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Venezuela on 6 December 2020. Aside from the 167 Deputy (legislator), deputies of the National Assembly (Venezuela), National Assembly who are eligible to be re-elected, the new National Electoral Council president announced that the assembly would increase by 110 seats, for a total of 277 deputies to be elected. The opposition parties that make up the Democratic Unity Roundtable coalition agreed unanimously not to participate in the election, stating the reason as irregularities and their complaints during the planning of the process and arguing that it was likely the election would be fraudulent. The United Socialist Party of Venezuela (, PSUV, ) is a Socialism, socialist political party which has been the ruling party of Venezuela since 2007. It was formed from a merger of some of the political and social forces that support the Bolivarian Revolution led by President Hugo Chávez. National Assembly (Venezuela)
The National Assembly () is the federal legislature of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, which was first elected in 2000 under the Constitution of Venezuela, 1999 constitution. It is a unicameral body made up of a variable number of members, who are elected by a "universal, direct, personal, and secret" vote partly by direct election in state-based voting districts, and partly on a state-based party-list proportional representation system. Each of the 23 States of Venezuela, States and the Capital District (Venezuela), Capital District elects no less than three representatives plus the result of dividing the state population by 1.1% of the total population of the country. Lara State (, ) is one of the 23 states of Venezuela, states of Venezuela. Lara is located in the Central-Western Region, Venezuela. The state capital is Barquisimeto. Lara State covers a total surface area of and, in 2015, had a census population of 2,019,211. Toponymy The state is named after a notable hero of Venezuela's independence, General Jacinto Lara.
