Rishad Zahir
Rishad Zahir (Persian: ) is an Afghan singer and musician from the United States. He is the son of the Afghan singer Ahmad Zahir. Early life Rishad Zahir was born in Seattle, Washington during his parents' visit to the United States. After spending a year in Seattle, they all returned to Afghanistan. Soon after, Rishad, accompanied by his mother left for the United States permanently. He and his family are from the Pashtun ethnic group and are originally from Laghman. Career He showed interest in music at the age of 11. He was inspired by his father's music and singing. While perfecting his understanding of his mother tongue, he also furthered his studies in the art of music, by seeking the guidance of elite musicians, and studying books and classical music. Afghan Singer
The music of Afghanistan comprises many varieties of classical music, folk music, and modern popular music. Afghanistan has a rich musical heritage and features a mix of Persian melodies, Indian compositional principles, and sounds from ethnic groups such as the Pashtuns, Tajiks and Hazaras. Instruments used range from Indian tablas to long-necked lutes. Afghanistan's classical music is closely related to Hindustani classical music while sourcing much of its lyrics directly from classical Persian poetry such as Mawlana Balkhi (Rumi) and the Iranian tradition indigenous to central Asia. Lyrics throughout most of Afghanistan are typically in Dari (Persian) and Pashto. Ahmad Zahir
Ahmad Zahir (Dari/Pashto: ; 14 June 1946 – 14 June 1979) was an Afghan singer, songwriter and composer. Dubbed the " Elvis of Afghanistan", he is widely considered the all-time greatest singer of Afghanistan. The majority of his songs were sung in Dari, and he also sang many songs in Pashto, as well as a few in Russian Urdu and English. Born in Kabul, Zahir recorded at least 14 studio albums before his abrupt death on his 33rd birthday in 1979. His music blended folk music, Persian literature, Indian classical music and Western pop and rock styles. Among Afghans, he is considered an icon of Afghan music and is widely regarded as the single greatest musician of all time, posthumously reclaiming immortal fame due to his contributions and influence on music in Afghanistan. Laghman Province
Laghman (Dari/Pashto: ) is one of the 34 provinces of Afghanistan, located in the eastern part of the country. It has a population of about 502,148, which is multi-ethnic and mostly a rural society. Laghman hosts a large number of historical landmarks, minarets, monuments, and other cultural relics that are manifestation of its old history and culture. The city of Mihtarlam serves as the capital of the province. In some historical texts the name is written as "Lamghan" or as "Lamghanat". Dari (, , ), also known as Dari Persian (, ), is the variety of the Persian language spoken in Afghanistan.
