''Rise'' is an American Musical film, musical Drama (film and television), drama television series created by Jason Katims, starring Josh Radnor in the lead role as Lou Mazzuchelli. The series is inspired by the 2013 book ''Drama High (book), Drama High'' by Michael Sokolove, which focused on real-life teacher Lou Volpe and the famed theater program at Harry S Truman High School (Levittown, Pennsylvania), Harry S Truman High School in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. The television pilot was ordered to series by NBC on May 4, 2017, along with ''The Brave (TV series), The Brave'', making both series the first regular series orders by the network for the 2017–18 United States network television schedule. The first season consisted of 10 episodes, and debuted on March 13, 2018. On May 11, 2018, NBC canceled the show after one season. The 2017–18 network television schedule for the five major English-language commercial broadcast networks in the United States covers prime time hours from September 2017 to August 2018. The schedule is followed by a list per network of returning series, new series, and series canceled after the 2016–17 season.
