Rio 200
The Rio 200 (initially Rio 400) was a Champ Car, CART Champ Car event held at Autódromo Internacional Nelson Piquet, in Rio de Janeiro. The race was contested on the trapezoid oval track, speedway at the facility known as Emerson Fittipaldi, Emerson Fittipaldi Speedway. The race was held from 1996 CART World Series season, 1996 to 2000 CART season, 2000. The first three events were run over 400 kilometers; the final two were 200 miles. This event was the only South American race sanctioned by Champ Car, CART. The Indy Racing League, IRL IndyCar Series began its 2010 IndyCar Series season, 2010 season in Brazil with the São Paulo Indy 300, its first event outside of North America or Japan. 1996 IndyCar Season
The 1996 PPG Indy Car World Series season was the eighteenth in the Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) era of American open-wheel car racing, consisted of 16 races, beginning in Homestead, Florida on March 3 and concluding in Monterey, California on September 8. This was the first season after the split with the Indy Racing League and the last year that CART operated under the name "IndyCar", with the trademark reverting to Indianapolis Motor Speedway at season's end. The Indianapolis 500 was replaced by the U.S. 500, held at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Michigan. Greg Moore (racing Driver)
Gregory William Moore (April 22, 1975 – October 31, 1999) was a Canadian professional race car driver who competed in the Firestone Indy Lights, Indy Lights and Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) series from 1993 to 1999. He began competitive Kart racing, karting at the age of ten and achieved early success, before progressing to Open-wheel car, open-wheel car racing in the Canadian Formula Ford Championship in 1991. Moore won the 1992 USAC FF2000 Western Division Championship and the 1995 Indy Lights season, 1995 Indy Lights Championship. He began competing in CART with Forsythe/Pettit Racing, Forsythe Racing in 1996 PPG Indy Car World Series, 1996, finishing ninth in the List of American open-wheel racing national champions, drivers' championship and was second to Alex Zanardi in the IndyCar Rookie of the Year, Rookie of the Year standings. 1998 CART Season
The 1998 FedEx Championship Series season was the twentieth in the Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) era of American open-wheel car racing. It consisted of 19 races, beginning in Homestead, Florida on March 15 and concluding in Fontana, California on November 1. The FedEx Championship Series Drivers' Champion was Alex Zanardi, his second consecutive championship, while the series' Rookie of the Year was Tony Kanaan. This was the first of five years of sponsorship by FDX Corporation, who became FedEx Corporation in 2000. The season was marred by a deadly crash on lap 175 of the U.S. 500. Adrián Fernández slammed into the outside wall in the fourth turn of Michigan International Speedway. Ilmor is a British independent high-performance auto racing, motor racing engineering company. It was founded by Mario Illien and Paul Morgan (engineer), Paul Morgan in November 1983. Paul Tracy
Paul Anthony Tracy (born December 17, 1968) is a Canadian professional auto racing driver who participated in Champ Car World Series, the IndyCar Series, and the Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART). He started kart racing at age five and quickly became successful and began car racing at sixteen, finishing third in the 1985 Formula Ford 1600 championship with one win and Rookie of the Year honors. Tracy became the youngest Canadian Formula Ford champion in the 1985 CASC Formula 1600 Challenge Series and was the youngest Can-Am race winner the following year. He raced in the American Racing Series for three years between 1988 and 1990, winning the series title with nine wins from fourteen races in 1990. The 1997 CART PPG World Series season was the nineteenth in the Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) era of American open-wheel car racing. It consisted of 17 races, beginning in Homestead, Florida on March 2 and concluding in Fontana, California on September 28. The PPG CART World Series Drivers' Champion was Alex Zanardi. Rookie of the Year was Patrick Carpentier. Mercedes-Benz won their first and only CART engine-manufacturer's title.
