Ring Ayuel
Ring Ayuel (born ) is a South Sudanese college basketball player. He is one of the tallest basketball players to have played professionally, standing at a height of 7 foot 3½ inches tall (2.22 meters). His height is sometimes disputed as being 7 foot 4 inches tall (2.235 meters). Biography Ayuel was born in Turalei, South Sudan, (but which then was in Sudan) the same village where NBA player Manute Bol was born. In 1999, when Ayuel was 11, his Dinka Tribe was invaded by Islamic soldiers. Ayuel and a group of several thousand people journeyed on a walk from their village to safety in northwest Kenya. Ayuel and the group found themselves in a United Nations, UN-sponsored refugee camp. Ayuel lived in the camp for five years before being taken to Long Island, New York for education. Turalei
Turalei is a large town and government seat of the Twic County of Warrap (state), Warrap State in the Bahr el Ghazal (region of South Sudan), Bahr el Ghazal region of South Sudan. Twic County
Twic County is a county located in Warrap State, in the Bahr el Ghazal region of South Sudan. History Twic is also known as Twic Mayardit. Twic community played an important role in the liberation of South Sudan. Most notably general figures is Kerubino Kuanyin Bol who was one of the founders of SPLM/SPLA (now Sudan People's Liberation Movement and South Sudan People's Defence Forces). Bol fired the first rebellious shot when the imposition of Islamic Sharia law in September 1983 triggered a second round of civil warfare in the undeveloped, largely animist and Christian southern regions of the Republic of Sudan. Warrap State
Warrap is one of the ten states in South Sudan with its Headquarters at Kuajok. Warrap state is located in the Bahr el Ghazal region. The state was separately established in 2005 following the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement between the Sudan People Liberation Movement and the Government of Sudan under the Leadership of president Omar Hassan El Bashir. It subsequently became part of South Sudan after a successful secession from Sudan on 9 July 2011. Manute Bol
Manute Bol ( ; June 19, 2010) was a Sudanese-American professional basketball player and political activist. Listed at or tall, Bol was one of the two tallest players in the history of the National Basketball Association (NBA). After he played college basketball for the Bridgeport Purple Knights, Bol was selected by the Washington Bullets in the 1985 NBA draft. Bol played for the Bullets and three other teams over the course of his NBA career, which lasted from 1985 to 1995. Dinka Tribe
The Dinka people () are a Nilotic ethnic group native to South Sudan. The Dinka mostly live along the Nile, from Mangalla-Bor to Renk, in the region of Bahr el Ghazal, Upper Nile (two out of three provinces that were formerly part of southern Sudan), and the Abyei area of the Ngok Dinka in South Sudan. They number around 4.5 million, according to the 2008 Sudan census, constituting about 40% of the population of that country and the largest ethnic group in South Sudan.
